Well, well,well.....look at the red hot Phillies. The bats are getting hot as the weather warms and the starting rotation is the best in baseball!!!! Bring on summer!!!!!

Sentiment and nod to Walker acknowledged. That said, didn't initially click why this qualifies as a save considering his entry was apparently in the 7th inning at which time the Phillies already had a 7 run lead...apparently because he "pitched at least 3 innings" despite the lead. Surprisingly, but honestly, had never heard of that LOL.

From when I was a kid watching games, I seem to remember the three-inning save as being more prevalent then. It wasn't common but it wasn't unusual either especially in situations like Walker's. Of course, that was before specialization when there was a role for long relievers. Nowadays if a relief pitcher goes more than one inning it's noteworthy. My guess is the three-inning save was implemented to reward the reliever for pitching 33% of the game. That's a lot of work for a guy to get nothing.
