I keep expecting to hear about a trade for bullpen help. It doesn’t have to be an All Star, but this pen is like a game of Russian Roulette every night. And prices for decent arms will only go up the closer it gets to the trade deadline.
Usually when you see two guys score close together like that it's because the lead runner made some sort of mistake and was caught by the trailing runner. In this case, both guys did exactly what they should have done in that situation. It made for an interesting visual at the plate.
Good thing no-one was on base. Four solo hr's tonight already. But hey...how about that blonde in the red tank top behind home plate!!

Now 5 after Soto hit another one. I hope Luzardo pitches well tomorrow. It would be deflating to lose the last 2 games of this series to a Mets team that had lost like 7 straight.
It's as if every bullpen decision Thompson makes backfires. Stop waiting for the damn trade deadline & get a real reliever. Jesus, this is so frustrating.

And while I expect them to make some type of move, I'd be surprised if it's for a player that really makes a difference, or if it's for a price that fans will be tolerant of. The real crime was not addressing the bullpen during the offseason. I believe the Dombrowski cycle has closed. It was a fun ride, but this is an old, expensive roster with lots of flaws.I suspect they'll do something regarding the 'pen. Throwing more top prospects at one more puff of this cigar butt is foolish and could set the franchise back to 2013 type levels.
They’re best off clearing out salary space this next offseason, IMO. Realmuto, Casty and even Schwarber should be allowed to walk. All are getting up there in age and will be bad values on their next contracts.
Bring up some young prospects and then try to fill in the gaps here and there as best able. They have the luxury of having a good rotation in place (even without Ranger). Positional production can be had.
Topper has a lineup card full of bad bullpen options. Every reliever he used tonight is far closer to league replacement value than top tier.

Odd series, but a great outcome. This Mets team can be so dangerous…you never feel comfortable against them, even when up by 5-6 runs.
They’ll be a handful in the second half, but we’ll take first place!
The Phillies need a left fielder badly. They also need two relievers. The guys they have now are going to have too many innings come October.
That said their #2 pitcher has been hurt all year and their best player can't seem to stay healthy. If they get to the playoffs healthy they can do some damage. Banged up anyone can take them out with above average pitching.

True Phillies fans are gluttons for punishment. We never throw in the towel. But this is not a championship-caliber team. If they get healthy and add to the bullpen, then maybe they can make some waves in October.
Pray tell which are the championship caliber teams that this Phils team is not worthy?
they have flaws and so does every top team this year
With all teams being reasonably healthy, the Dodgers and Mets are better than the Philllies in the NL. The Tigers and Yankees are better in the AL.
I believe one of those teams will win the championship in October. Cutting-edge insight, I know.
