geez, quite the bottom of the 7th.

Bohm follows the Schwarbomb with a solo HR, then Casty gets on via an error on the SS, and then Kemp follows with a 2-run HR. Then Sosa with a solo blast, though the 3rd-base ump calls fan interference and thus a ground-rule double. After conferencing, it's called a HR -- Sosa's 3rd of the night. And the Fightins set a franchise record with their 8th HR of the game.

Wow. Cleveland has taken 1st from Detroit. Tigers at risk of not making the playoffs.

I don’t know if I ever want my team being hot In the beginning of the season again.
Tigers are fortunate the Astros have also been terrible, losing 5 straight. No one wants that last wild card in either league.

Ring It!!! Fightins win 11-1, and clinch a 1st round bye in the NL playoffs.

Did I read that the Phillies hit 8 HR last night? That’s crazy, if true.

It’s looking like #2 is the best they’ll do. So rest the pitching staff and focus on the Dodgers or Padres.

Three wild cards make the MLB playoffs in each league. The Cubs and the Padres are pretty much set as the 1st and 2nd slot in the NL Wild Card, though they could possibly switch positions. The 3rd slot is a bit of a mess. The current standings:

- NY Mets: up 1 game on the Diambondbacks & Reds. They lost to the Cubs last night
- Diamondbacks: they are tied with the Reds; 1 behind the Mets. They lost to the Dodgers last night
- Reds: they are tied with the Diamondbacks; 1 behind the Mets. They lost to the Pirates last night

As for the Fightins, they could still get the #1 seed, but they are currently 2.5 games behind the Brewers. The Fightins have 4 games left (1 - Marlins; 3 - Twins), while the Brewers have 3 games left (3 - Reds), so the odds are certainly in the favor of the Brewers getting the #1 seed, though the Reds have more to play for than the Marlins or the Twins.

The Marlins catcher is so annoying, and Kruk has been on this for a couple nights. He frames every pitch by moving his glove a foot into the strike zone if it's a ball, some not even close.

In the NL playoff race, the Cubs and the Padres clinched wild card berths. In the race for the 3rd wild card berth, the Mets won, the Reds won, and the Diamondbacks lost. With 3 games left in the season, the Mets have a 1-game lead over the Reds, and a 2 game lead over the Diamondbacks. The series that the three teams in contention have this weekend are:

Mets - face the Marlins
Reds - face the Brewers
Diamondbacks - face the Padres

And what is with the Phillies playing the Twins, and the Dodgers playing the Mariners, on the final weekend? Call me old fashioned, but I really don't like the idea that NL teams play AL teams in September. It should't be too hard to add that limitation to the schedule.

I agree 100% Tom! Been saying the same thing for a couple of weeks now, after I checked to see who the Phillies were playing the last week of the season. Between the RULE changes, and this inter-league crap (getting old now), baseball is losing fans.

Good news is the Brewers are playing the Reds, and the Reds are fighting for the playoffs. If the Phils can take care of business, the Reds are set up to play hard.

The Brewers have the top seed all but locked up. The Tuesday meltdown cost the Phils any chance they had. That game was beyond frustrating.
