damn, Hernandez scores on a weak dribbler to SS (I think the batter broke his bat). A better throw by Turner (it was up the 1st base side), and Hernandez would have been out.

Dodgers take a 1-0 lead. 1 out, and men on 1st & 3rd.

This team’s deficiencies strike again. SMH. At least Dombrowski can’t run it back next year and claim they’re a contender like he did this year.

So Kerkering ends up giving up 3 runs, and Strahm gives up 1 run.

4-0, Dodgers, heading to the bottom of the 7th.

Weird series, in that when the Fightins went to LA in September, the Dodgers starters were stellar, but the Fightins has success when they got to the Dodgers' 'pen. Yet in this series (so far), it's the Phillies' 'pen that has been the problem.

So far this series has played out like the regular season. Great starting pitching, inconsistent/mediocre offense, and poor bullpen.

The weaknesses becoming glaring in the playoffs.
This very obviously wasn’t a legit contender after the regular season. The defense, offense and bullpen were average at best. You can’t beat teams like the Dodgers that way.

Things will be fun on WIP tomorrow. Does Topper return next year? Does Dombrowski? Both may be smart to exit stage left vs facing a big rebuild.

They're the defending champs for a reason. It's the playoffs and you have to bring your "A" game on every play. No telling how the game would have played out had Trea made a better throw to home.

Still two more innings though. Maybe they'll do heroic things.

That throw was it, the key to the whole inning. A game of inches.

Kepler with a PH triple (more a double that the RFer misplayed), and then Turner follows with a single to plate Kepler.

1 out, man of 1st, Schwarber coming to the plate, in the bottom of the 8th.

4-1, Dodgers

and then Schwarber strikes out (technically, a foul tip on strike 3 that is caught), and then Harper with a fly out to center field.

The top of the order is not getting it done for the Fightins

Tonight is why letting Schwarber walk wouldn’t be the end of the world.

If they could save Schwarber’s $30M and move Casty, Nola and Walker, then they’d have some options.

How's lacrosse?
And I'm serious.
Great sport! A lot of fun to watch and this is from someone that played baseball for my entire youth up through HS. My son started playing when he was in 2nd grade and I have loved watching him play the game.

The team is constructed in such as way as to consistently perform well over the long haul but not in the crunch time of the post season. The bottom line is that they do not have enough batters who are able to hit situationally. They have too many all-or-nothing bats in the roster. Throw in the fact that the middle of the bullpen has remained mediocre for a long time and you have a bad recipe for playoff baseball when every single pitch has a bit more intensity.

Bottom of the 9th:

Bohm with a single
JT with a double
Casty, on a 1-2 count, reaches for a slider, and one-hands it into left field, plating Bohm and JT, and Casty gets to 2nd (throw beat him, but the fielder missed the tag)

4-3, Dodgers, no out, Casty on 2nd, and the Dodgers are making a pitching change.

Dodgers bring in Vesia, Bryson Stott at the plate.

Bader moves into the on-deck circle as a PH

Stott with a good bunt, but Muncy charges from 3rd, and throws to Betts (SS) covering, and they beat Casty to 3rd.

Stott on 1st, 1 out

Bader to PH, though he can't run too well with a groin injury.

Kepler with a chopper to 1st base, and Freeman throws out Wilson at 2nd (only play he had).

Fightins have 1st & 3rd, 2 out. Dodgers to bring in Roki Sasaki, to face Trea Turner

Turner with a shot to 2nd, poor throw to 1st by Edman, but Freddie Freeman backhands the ball on a bounce, and holds the bag.

Fightins lose, 4-3

YUGE Dodgers win! Shut that crowd up in a hurry and sent them all home! I have no idea why Trienan was in. Just put Roki in at the beginning of the 9th and all this unnecessary drama is averted.

Look to clinch in Dodger Stadium!

The bunt was a horrible decision. Why would anyone play for a tie against the Dodgers? Win the damn game.
Agree. Good chance Stott hits a ground ball to the right side if he doesn't get a hit and Castellanos gets to 3rd with one out anyway. Would rather have seen him swing away than give away an out against the better relief pitchers.
