Not vouching for this, but this was posted on Cyclone Fanatic last week, FWIW. Had never read this level of detail about what exactly happened with her. Hard to know if true, but seemed like something was off with her Iowa visit and follow up.

This is what happened with Jada Williams, according to someone who is dating one of the players on the Iowa WBB team. Jan and Raina wanted Jada. She visited. Numbers were discussed. When you visit during portal season, you basically get an offer, so yes, she received an offer.

However, the girls on the team did not feel she was a team player and it was communicated to the captains (Kylie F and Taylor S) that they didn’t feel comfortable with her joining. Many of them had casually encountered her in AAU and reportedly some parents weren’t into the idea either.

So the captains told Jan that and Jan listened to her players, pulling the offer after what she thought was a good visit. I’m sure she would have loved to sign Jada, Iowa was desperate for a PG and JW is the kind of athlete Jan is trying to increasingly target. But her loyalty is to her team.

Idk that Jada would have chosen Iowa over ISU (I know she was friends with Addy B, I don’t believe she had a real relationship with anyone at Iowa).

So...the Den Mothers wanted Jada and JJ asks two players(both guards) to see if there was a cultural fit and they said "no"?

If that is all true, the HC isn't even running the roster????

This is beyond laughable Beth might as well just skip the HC and let the girls on the roster set the starting lineup.
Talk about "in over her head".

She considered Iowa, and Iowa considered her, until her visit. It wasn't a fit and Iowa didn't offer.
It wasn't a fit based on Feuerbach and Stremlow...you know, two players that would be affected by any guard signed.😟
Oh, and apparently JJ was getting advice from some parents.

Fvcking ridiculous if all true.

I thought you knew the reason already

This is what I was holding off on.
And realizing it can NEVER be verified because there isn't a soul on the staff or team that wants this as public knowledge because it can kill portal recruiting if it is remotely true.
This is a huge negative going forward and certainly doesn't affirm Jensen is a leader of a well funded basketball program.

The post stated that the team communicated their concerns through the captains which were Kylie and Strem.

If it can NEVER be verified, how can you state it as if it's a fact?

Mitch never passes up a good chance to twist something about JJ into being the worst thing ever.
You think a HC being influenced more by advice from players and parents demonstrates leadership???

Just the opposite, demonstrates a lack of leadership.
I wonder who Callie Levin thinks should be portal targets???

Given how the Iowa program in multiple sports has been promoted as a "cultural" environment, this story is definitely believable.
See post #286...no one in their right mind wants it known that the HC isn't running things.

The fact that this story is floating on the interwebz is not good PR.

Yes no one wants it known but message board Anon71595488373 knows!

For as much as a Jan hater you are, I'm surprised you weren't screaming it from the roof tops.

Even IF true, I don't see it as bad PR. A head coach seeking player input sounds like a player's coach.

You probably could turn Walmart and Amazon into Kmart.

A boss that doesn't listen to input from the people doing the work is going to destroy everything with out ever knowing why.
You really think Geno, Staley, Mulkey, and the UCLA coach operate like this?
I have my doubts.
Don't be naive.

Lute let the players have say on potential recruits, Back in the day the story was that the players told Lute no bueno on Joe Barry Carroll. It’s not that unusual.

I guess the Megan Gustafson and Monica Czinano years never happened.

Obviously that didn't happen under Lisa.

Neither happened when we had any good guard play..I can barely remember, but I think that Megan had Kathleen Doyle and Monica had that same Doyle and Kayla Clark..Kaitlin Martin..somebody. I don't feel like googling that dreadful point play we had in that era to remember.

Versus the warden rules like at Iowa State??? Choose which program looks more attractive to players
Look at it this way...Imagine Jada Gyamfi, the social butterfly, getting along great with potential teammates and, in reality, scored 100 points in her college career.
One of Lisa's biggest whiffs, I bet.
Fortunately, Bluder had CC, so JadaG being a non contributor for 4 years wasn't a big deal.

Things happen..wasn't Jada a top 50 coming out of high school? Something like 39?

Loved the that she was a great teammate and friend even if her basketball wasn't what (I assume) what she wanted.

Jan's offense is not setup to let guards really be successful. She wants to pound the post good guards going to play in a system more suited to them. That is why Deal wanted to come to Iowa to begin with was Lisa's style. Jan ducked up and changed it all
If Jensen continues pounding the ball inside her tenure might be short-lived because good guards want some freedom to create. JMO
