Richie could have stayed at ASU, maintained 125 and still AA’d all while mailing it in likely.
There are some caveats about teammates and possibly some other reasons, but yes if you end up as the starter those matches count towards qualification.

Penn State's Kysion Garcia and Duke's Raymond Adams traded escapes to start the secon and third periods to make it 1-1 early in the third following a scoreless first. Adams gets in on a shot and takes Garcia down for a 4-1 lead as they go off the edge with 27 seconds left. Garcia escapes but that's all the closer he gets. He loses, by decision, 4-2, and his tournament is over.

Shoulders are a *****! I first hurt mine in 1978 during Freshman football! Never been right. Three surgeries later I was recently told I need a total replacement. A kid that went to my HS Alama matter (Bergen Catholic) was a beast. Three time Jersey champ (Johnny Sebastian) had a very tough college career due to shoulder issues.
