Didn’t Josh and Rocco have some history in high school??
My AI wrestling agent says:

1. 2022 Fargo (Junior Freestyle Finals)
In what is considered one of the most dramatic finals in Fargo history, Josh Barr (Michigan) faced Rocco Welsh (Pennsylvania) at 170 lbs. Welsh held a 5-3 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. Barr scored a takedown and a turn in the closing seconds to win 8-5, securing his second consecutive Fargo title.

2. 2022 Who’s Number One (WNO)
The two met in a highly anticipated rematch at FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One event in September 2022. Competing in a folkstyle environment, Welsh avenged his Fargo loss by defeating Barr in a tight match 5-4, evening their series.

3. 2023 Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic
The "rubber match" took place in March 2023 at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic (formerly the Dapper Dan), featuring Welsh on the PA All-Star team and Barr on the USA All-Star team. Welsh won the match 3-1 in sudden victory (OT), taking the high school series lead 2-1.

Asher is fun to watch, but Rocco won an intense match at the Black Knight Invitational 14-8. I would like to see Asher up against a few top 6 type kids before I annoint him our next great one.
Watching him maul the crap out of this field and getting overly excited is the equivalent to Hawkeye fans getting excited because their Solider Salute guys scored a takedown.

Kinney has tremendous feet for a big guy. His love was football, I'm guessing he was missing wrestling and Sanderson still has an interest in him. Maybe for future roster. I would think unless the coaches can create some openings that the Mirosola brothers situation might get complicated. They might be a tandem if one goes they both go. ???

I wouldn’t equate that to the solder salute. Asher is a backup not a starter. Iowas backups are winning 1 pt match’s in the quarters and semis

You might take notice i compared us getting excited about Asher face stomping this level of competition is the equivalent of Hawk fans getting overly excited because their guys scored a takedown at the SS event.

Welsh handled him pretty definitively at the Black Knight with strength and clean attacks. Asher’s trajectory has been great for 3 straight years though. Would love to see him downblock and sprawl once or twice though.
There’s a long history of true freshman making big improvements over the course of one season. One good PSU example is DT losing to Cyler Sanderson (8-3ish) at wrestle off in November, then closing the gap to 9-8 (or similar) at an Open only a month or two later. Jordan Burroughs as a true freshman lost his wrestle off at 141, then moved up to 149 and won a few matches at NCAAs. Not saying that Asher is going to end up with credentials similar to DT or JB, but the fact that Asher is drastically improving rather than getting beat down as a result of going with MM, Levi, Henkel, Barr, Welsh, Mirasola, and the coaches everyday is a really good sign for more improvement over the next year.

It seems likely that Asher will have to sit a year or two behind Welsh/Barr/Mirasola but I'd love to see him up at 197. Get as wide as a house and use what mama/daddy gave you.

I watched Asher at Black Knight Invitational. It was obvious to me that he is very strong for his age . He liked to counter with upper body and arms. I don't think he's going be prone to having issues on bottom. I think the one area that might need improvement is his offense from space.

With Cochran out it could be close for the team title. PSU leads Penn by 3 points. Penn has 8 wrestling in the placement matches to PSU's 5. Still is a big edge to Penn State with 5 in the championship matches (4pts for a win) to 2 Penn wrestlers vying for the title with a head-to-head match at 174. All the other matches award only 1 point for a win, but beware of falls and forfeits.

Penn almost had the lead going into the final round. Their wrestler was trailing late in the consi semi when his opponent went down with a knee injury. Had he been unable to continue, Penn would have picked up 5 points.

He will continue to evolve his style to fit his gifts. National champ and Olympic champ Jake Varner was not good in space, so he crowded everyone in the world to dictate how a match was wrestled. Some of the best minds in wrestling are at Asher's every need. I see a really bright future.

Maybe in the context of PIAA heavies. Even in the context of the big boys, he wasn't Jimmy Lawson on feet.

He got crushed by Feldman and in his SR year lost to Carter Neves. Mirasola may or may not be Feldman, time will tell, but he's far better than Neves.

And Kinney would need to overcome a 2-yr training gap.

Yep I don’t ever put much faith in guys that try two sports in college or choose another and wants to come back to wrestling. It’s hard to cover the time they have lost in training, unless they are superb athletes.

Maybe the BIG network can do really cool promotional spots telling everyone he is coming. I thought that Polar Bear from Nebraska was a real threat to run the table after watching them prop him up. He proceeded to lose to Bradley Hill (who is closer to Bobby Hill than Gable Steveson) and that was that.

That move is definitely not what we called a cement mixer. The cement mixer was a roll through from a front headlock position where you pivot your hips and try to catch the other guy on his back as you’re rolling (if that makes sense).
yes I was referring to the Cement Job that was in the Kolat video

Nobody calls it a freaking Metcalf! Don Rohn learned is from Wade Schalles and taught it for years in Northampton. Don won an NCAA title with it as did his nephew Rob. All PA boys long before Metcalf.
I know the move did not start with Brett, I am just saying that I know people who call it that including a NWHOF awarded coach

Maybe just Sanderson making sure he has a backup moving forward if needed at a limited option weight class. 125 and 285 are where teams can have a lack of depth and a flexibility issue.

Absolutely! Kinney would at minimum be a full-sized quality training partner.

TBD if he'd still be better than Elijah Brown once Brown gets up to 250+ lb, but that day isn't here yet and no harm in finding out.
