I just hate to say it, but, is it feasible that Casey takes his two sons to Rutgers (or another university that needs a quality coach) so they can be starters. I’m sure the two sons will provide plenty of thrills if they stay at PSU, but, they might achieve more elsewhere. Casey would clearly be a top level head coach.

Yea umm I just don’t think that’s happening.

Asher is fun to watch, but Rocco won an intense match at the Black Knight Invitational 14-8. I would like to see Asher up against a few top 6 type kids before I annoint him our next great one.
Watching him maul the crap out of this field and getting overly excited is the equivalent to Hawkeye fans getting excited because their Solider Salute guys scored a takedown.
Which guy got a takedown?

A little footnote about the Rohn taught Cement Job. I mentioned the Eckloff Brothers using it on a regular basis with tremendous success. The nastiest kid to use it for Northampton was Christian Luciano. He looked like a Greek God and would be able to torque kids over even if they knew it was coming. He led Pennsylvania in pins his Senior year.

With regard to Aaron: Perhaps you give it one more shot with a start against Rutger...? If he still can't go then probably we go with the Assassin?
Just doesn't seem realistic, unless he withdrew for illness and not injury. The point of wrestling Nagao is nationals. If his shoulder couldn't hold up to face the 0-2 Devon Harrison, then facing #6 Olivieri on Saturday seems unlikely -- and Rutger Fight Club would be very risky for his chances of reaching the postseason.

If they're keeping Nagao hope alive, then Desmond and Hayden both have matches left, Nasdeo could go, they could bump up Garcia, even see if Perry could suck down.

One of those guys might face Rutger anyway. Davis as-is probably will get enough matches for an RPI, but going to the F&M Open on Friday would lock that in.

149 Final: Connor Pierce vs. Brock Herman (LR)

Period 1:
Here we go! Circling & head tapping. Herman shoots, gets a leg & finishes the TD, 3-0. Out of bounds & restart. Pierce is still down. He works to his feet & gets the escape, 3-1. Herman drops in on a leg, switches to a double, then comes up to a bodylock, but Pierce fights him off. Blood time. Herman is bleeding. Back to action. Herman works off 1-knee. He works to his feet & tries a 2 on 1. Pierce posts on the head, then reaches for a leg, but Herman fights him off. Herman blows out his nose plug & we've got more blood time. Back to action again. Circling & head tapping. Herman shoots, Pierce counters, but nobody scores. Pierce presses forward & has Herman on the edge. Out of bounds & restart. Stall warning on Herman. More blood time. Back to action again, 56-sec left. Circling & head tapping. Pierce snaps, gets Herman off balance, & then finishes the TD, 4-3. Pierce gets Herman bellied out. He looks for a tilt, but can't lock it up. Pierce rides out the period. 4-3 Pierce, +17-sec RT

Period 2:
Pierce takes down. He pops to his feet & gets the escape, 5-3. Circling & head/face tapping again. Briefly tying up, then they break. Herman doesn't seem to want to tie-up much. Collar ties now. Pierce picks an ankle & finishes the TD, 8-3. Pierce cuts Herman, 8-4. Pierce takes Herman to the edge. He snaps & drives him out. Another stall call on Herman, point Pierce, 9-4. Circling & face tapping. Pierce shoots, but can't get there. He shoots again, but same result & time expires. 9-4 Pierce, +21-sec RT

Period 3:
Herman takes down. Pierce works a tight waist ride. Pierce gets Herman bellied out. Herman works back to his base, then it's stopped for more blood time. Herman's bleeding again. Back to action. Herman is still down. He rolls, but Pierce stays with him. He rolls again, but Pierce stays with him again. Pierce goes over 1-min RT. Pierce cuts Herman, 9-5. Pierce picks an ankle & finishes another TD, 12-5. Pierce cuts Herman, 12-6. Pierce snatches another ankle. They're scrambling. Herman has a leg too. They keep scrambling until time expires. Pierce adds a RT point, 13-6

Connor Pierce DEC Brock Herman 13-6

Connor Pierce takes 1st Place!
"Herman's bleeding again."

I kept waiting for the line "Herman's hemorrhaging hemoglobin!"

Been beating the Asher drum for many years now on the other board. Don't be surprised if, in a year or two, he is a starter somewhere in this incredibly difficult lineup to crack. He has National Champ potential for sure, seems to jump levels every year, and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Certainly lots of things to work on, but I expect a HUGE jump between his true freshman year and next year. Can't wait to see how high he can go and what the score will be between him and Rocco by years end.

Time to start buying some AI stock.

Meanwhile, for you guys that actually saw Barr with your eyes ... was he wearing any wrap of any kind?
Is it safe to say he is fully back, as good or better than ever ???

Can Pierce make it to 141? He looks pretty big at 149. Checking if anyone has any intel...

Good point! Just the same, being a Dad and watching your sons has a way of changing your mindset.
I watched an interview the other day with Cael and he elaborated on kids not having to be starters but just to be their best and improve as men and grow and be grateful. I couldn't help but think that the coaches have bought into that as well which is why we are so great as a team amd why these coaches have stayed so long. Any one of them could be a head coach anywhere but they bought into loyalty to the kids and the program

Another Soldier Solute antedote:

Was watching replays of some of the SS finals. For the 165 final, North Carolina Bryce Hepner (anOSU transfer from Tan Tom) was annnounced, with the normal fanfare, as "Bryce Harper". This prompted a "WTF" facial reaction from Hepner, LOL.

I think they graduate then go somewhere for masters. Similar to bearclaw.

I think Asher eventually starts and does awesome while Hayden remains a very valuable room guy. Let’s not pretend they are the same level of wrestler. PSU have had many guys on Hayden’s level who never started and never left. Off the top of my head guys I would have liked to see get a starting shot at a lesser program: Donovan Ball, Kade Moss, Matt Lee, Geno Morelli, potentially Lucas Cochran and Conner Pierce

Morelli did start at a lesser program before transferring to PSU.

I know, for a second I thought, "What the hell is Cael doing over there?" when I saw the bald American coach.
That WAS Cael! He and Casey like to challenge each other by sneaking into the opposing team's chair and going at it coaching - man against man.

They can't do it on PSU vs PSU matches like at the Black Knight so this is the next best thing.

Casey won this one, boy his next newsletter will be great! Plus going 5 for 5 today, Casey is already having Pete put in a new typewriter ribbon.

Love the way Asher wrestles, but let's see him wrestle a top ten guy first.

Casey could have done this anytime he wanted to. He is a quality coach who can built a program... but he is building a legacy here. Asher and Hayden are legit college wrestlers. Asher has grown by leaps and bounds and who knows how things play out. Transfer portals, injuries, NIL... life is bigger than wrestling.... getting a great education while being with your dad and brother everyday all while getter better and better at your sport a chance to compete... that may be a bigger for for the family!

Casey is rumored to have turned down a hefty Richison bag before they turned to DT. Hard to see Rutgers offering anything in that stratosphere other than guys his boys can beat in a wrestle-off….

I think Asher eventually makes the lineup. I still think he’s a little comparable to Nagao at this point in that he needs to round out his (neutral) game a little to consistently beat the best in the field. He’s in the right place to do that, no doubt!

Who do you see him beating for that spot? Rocco or moving up to beat Barr. Also have James coming in who isn’t done growing . At this time I don’t see the path but who knows .

He would have 2 years after Rocco is done and also 2 years after Barr is done. No idea how the situation will unfold, but he looks like a guy who is damn good with plenty of things to improve upon. It will be fun to see what happens.
