You raise great points, and I mostly agree with them. Campbell will do great here. I do think they are still learning wr recruiting at this level. It is crazy territory. They had matched Auburn’s nil offer for Hall, had a silent verbal from the visit, and (supposedly true story) Auburn threw in a $100k truck at the end to land (flip) the commitment. Even though Campbell had nothing to do with it, we won’t be getting discounts on upper level wr prospects until PSU flips the disastrous script on wr development. We have not had success since Dotson and Washington. It is absolutely vital for our reputation and recruiting that Sowell has a great season and gets drafted. Maybe then a Hall or Taylor will not back out of a (silent) commitment here for just a few more dollars when we have a value proposition that we will get you drafted.
Previous WR performance has nothing to do with it. That was a previous coaching staff and different players. I don’t think anyone believes that correlation carries over now. If anything, this staff has to prove they can coach up players because their own WR coach, who was responsible for putting a few guys in the NFL, quit very early in his PSU tenure. Largely, though, it seems to come down to NIL funds. Otherwise, Taylor wouldn’t have even given Rhule and Nebraska the time of day because Nebraska has no history of WR development.
