Coach Banghart is a player Yes, we shall see who we "get"-but it is encouraging.
WBB is kind of "sick' in terms of 2,3,4 teams really dominating in recruitment ( like field hockey, lol.) We are doing our best to get into the next tier.
Then you just never know

I was hoping that too, but it was not meant to be. As I stated before, if I am a top high school player in the 2027 and 2028, I would love to play with Kate. When I watched the McDonalds AA, I saw how easier the offense flowed when she ran it. Hopefully, CB and staff can use this as a recruiting tool. Kate is the real deal.

There was a lot of pressure from within the family for her to attend a school which was close, so the family could watch her play. Since her being from TN , Vanderbilt were the logical choice since the University of TN was not., Let's see how this plays out in a couple of years, whether she is still there. No doubt she was seriously interested in UNC.

We need to get some homegrown talent growing close CH I guess. I was ho;ping Hassell was going to be a Tar Heel.
I totally agree. While portal recruiting can save a team I still believe a mix base of talented freshmen and quality upper class mates is the best overall formula. It gives a degree of stability if such a thing exists anymore.

If the talent is not there, you can't make it there by magic. Pie in the sky does not happen. Why is top tier NC women's basketball prospects behind?

I agree nicheel. If the talent is not in the top 30 from NC why go after them; especially if you are trying to go beyond the sweet sixteen. You have to have at least one WNBA talent on your roster. To answer your question nicheel, I think it comes in cycles. Some of our top talent might be going to some of your power house schools that are out of the state. That is a very good question.

I agree. If local talent isn’t top 25…move on. We’re not looking for participation credits, we want championships. I do find it odd that HS girls basketball isn’t consistently good in NC. It does seem to go in waves the last being Poole, Rivers, Indy, and the Key sisters. It baffles me that a state like Georgia, similar in population and growth, consistently has great high school teams and players and NC doesn’t.

No doubt we have got to recruit wherever the talent is.

The state of NC has been lacking on great players lately.

The last great player to come out of our state is Sarah Strong who was ranked number 1 in the nation and in NC two years ago and now plays at UCONN.

I agree. IMO, women's basketball as played can be the purest form of the game as waaay back original. Not as NBA dominated by very tall oddities that can easily dunk, almost reach the rim from standing reach. UCLA did win with a very tall dominant player. Hoping that does not become the "routine".

Let Vandy endure the freshman lumps and set the NIL bar. Then we swoop in when she hits the portal in 2028!

With apologies to @Carolina151, I have edited the original post in this thread to build a 2027 recruiting list.

It only includes recruits who have either visited or we have offered. As per usual, we are relying on these kids to self-report and I have basically only included reports in ths thread. So I can guarantee you this list is not complete.

Continue to post updates to this thread and we can revise the list.

edit: I went ahead and pinned the thread. Let us all know thoughts on this format, suggestions, mistakes. At some point we maybe can do the same for the other recruiting classes.

Thanks for sharing. I agree. I hope she will choose UNC. I would love to see her play with KH, NB. TQ, CT, etc. That UNC blue looks good on you. Go Heels!

North Carolina: “It’s been awesome. Coach [Courtney] Banghart, she’s been recruiting me since eighth grade, so it’s definitely been one of my longer relationships with a head coach. I think just that by itself is the reason why I want to go down. Obviously, she’s a great person and coach, and so with my relationship with her and the things that she’s told me in the process, I think it’s definitely a no-brainer going down there. She’s just super supportive. I mean, she was just in Mexico watching me and a couple others play in the U18 AmeriCup, so I think just her support over the years has been really, really nice.”

I hope that will be enought to land her. We can clearly see that CB is doing all that she can to land her to coming to UNC.

Updated the original post with the recent players listed in the thread.

Here is the On3 recruiting board

  • At least 9 of the top 50 have already committed elsewhere
  • But 15 of the top 50 still undecided have either UV'd to UNC, OV'd to UNC, and/or list us in their finalists.
No commits as of yet, but many irons in the fire still.

It's just a matter of time before one or two of these prospects commit to UNC, CB and the staff are putting in the work.

I hope you are right kjcooper. It is very tough when you put in the work that they are putting in and nobody commits to your program.

You cannot teach height. Hopefully she is mobile, has skills, etc. We do not need a project 6'8". Go Heels!
