238 Mountaineers Named to Spring Big 12 Honor Roll


MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 17, 2015) -- The Big 12 Conference released its 2015 Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a total of 238 West Virginia University student-athletes making the list. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher.


Of the 238 WVU student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 for their academic excellence, 43 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester.


The 43 Mountaineers named to the list with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the semester include: Gary Browne (men’s basketball); Averee Fields (women’s basketball); Paul Millard (football); Lia Salzano (gymnastics); Ziva Dvorsak, Elizabeth Gratz, Thomas Kyanko (rifle); Alisha Brownfield, Whitney Chrisman, Anna Cokeley, Rachel Cokeley, Emily Deming, Elizabeth Duarte, Kaitlyn Eason, Audrey Geise, Morgan Leach, Louisa Morgan, Mollie Rosen, Melinda Sharon, Jacqueline Spiropoulos (rowing); Andy Bevin, Jack Elliott, Austin Stout (men’s soccer); Ali Connelly, Amanda Hill, Easther Mayi Kith (women’s soccer); Nathan Howells, David Palley (men’s swimming & diving); Amelie Currat, Katie Murto, Julie Ogden, Jennifer Rey, Emma Skelley, Haily VandePoel, Jenelle Zee (women’s swimming & diving); Hailey Barrett, Kaja Mrgole (tennis); and Amy Cashin, Corinne Kule, Allison Lasnicki, Renee Maisonneuve, Sydney Scott, Kelly Williams (women’s track and cross country).


The rowing and cross country/track teams led all Mountaineer athletic teams with 35 and 30 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include football (29), women’s swimming & diving (20), men’s swimming & diving (17), men’s soccer (17), baseball (16), women’s soccer (16), gymnastics (14), wrestling (12), rifle (9), men’s basketball (7), tennis (7), volleyball (5) and women’s basketball (4).


Fifty-one West Virginia student-athletes graduated in May, with 49 earning undergraduate degrees and two earning master’s degrees.


The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those Big 12 student-athletes who recorded a 3.00 or better GPA the previous semester.


More than 3,500 student-athletes each semester have been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in the Conference’s 18-year tenure.
