It is true. It’s being reported all over. The HC and QB are often package deals in the end. It makes sense. Becht knows Campbell’s offense and the qb coach, same with Grunk. It is what it is. I was hoping he’d go elsewhere, and now VT has a multi year starter.
Just as Trace followed James from Vanderbilt

When was Terry Smith the QB coach? Stop the BS.
Ohhhh, you meant the QB guru, my mistake. Does said guru get credit for the development and progression (or lack thereof) of Allar too? Or does it only count when it's something positive you can point to about the Tech guys?

QB play certainly got better after Terry Smith was the head coach and Grunk improved under his leadership. Smith deserves credit for his development just as any other coach deserves credit or criticism for QB success during their tenure.

Franklin's development of Allar was an unqualified failure. Franklin had 4 years with a 5 star pocket passer QB who seemed to digress every year he was here. Allar went from a potential first round draft pick to who knows when he will get drafted. How much of the blame attributable to the player vs. the coach is debatable. It appears Franklin's offense is not ideal for a pocket passer.

Ever since Trace, Franklin became obsessed with running the QB's......running constant QB draws with clifford and allar was malpractice, even if it worked from time to time. I really like Grunk, shame he wants the abuse in Franklin's system.

He could portal out of there after next season as well. The “grass” is always greener, or should I say “money.”

Ironic that some fans think success at Iowa state will equate more success in the B10..
It's not like they won their conference- or came close.

I remain cautiously optimistic, but those thinking that this is going to be a quick climb to greatness are living in a dream world.

Neither does PSU, FWIW
Are you new around here (I know you’re not), every game is big next year. It will determine how long it takes for some of the wackos to call the Campbell hiring poor horrible and want him fired.

I haven’t seen anyone predict “a quick climb to greatness.” I did see many posters predict doom and gloom for PSU during the lengthy coaching search process that included the decimation of the recruiting class. We‘re clearly in the wait and see mode, but I’ll predict 8-4 at worst next year, no disaster scenario, and am hopeful of a rebuild of team culture and future recruiting and portal success after this clearly aberrational year.

And I don’t see anyone “condemning” Grunk for transferring to VT — many just believe he’s being shortsighted in returning to play under coaches and a system that seem ill suited to his skill set.

Campbell is cherry picking players from the team that he coached. He knows what they are capable of under his system. There is a greater chance at success grabbing players that he is intimately familiar with than grabbing players from other ACC teams / BIG 12 teams with similar success or grabbing players from lower rated conferences with greater statistical success. Obviously, grabbing studs from the BIG or SEC is optimal but you are generally going to have to over pay for these players. Given the across the board needs for PSU, PSU is simply not in a position to overpay for a single stud at this point. Overpaying for a proven stud receiver or a stud linebacker would have been justified last year given the returning talent and high expectations, but not this year.

I would regard 8-4 or better as a good first season for the new staff. 9-3 would be great.

I don't disagree. I'm just keeping my expectations reasonable.

Campbell is picking them all from one mediocre ISU team while cignetti recruited them from a dozen different teams.

The game with the kid flipping his hair for 3 hours while we had to watch his dad cheering for UCLA the whole game with his shiteating grin taking up 1/4 of the TV screen during the plays. To hell with CBS.

hypocrisy= QB follows Campbell to PSU- commendable
QB follows Franklin to VT-condemnable
Well one has a track record of developing QBs and the other doesn't but sure lets call it hypocrisy.
I haven't seen condemnation about Grunk going to VT. More disappointment because there are other places he could probably develop more. Maybe just me.

Considering the timing, did he have a lot of choice? I'm concerned as well, but he had very little time, and that's not on him.

Absolutely. There are players entering the portal from schools other than ISU. It is even a necessity.

Cignetti didn't just sign players from jmu. He signed 18 transfers from 14 schools other than jmu in 2024.
