Just as Trace followed James from VanderbiltIt is true. It’s being reported all over. The HC and QB are often package deals in the end. It makes sense. Becht knows Campbell’s offense and the qb coach, same with Grunk. It is what it is. I was hoping he’d go elsewhere, and now VT has a multi year starter.
Ohhhh, you meant the QB guru, my mistake. Does said guru get credit for the development and progression (or lack thereof) of Allar too? Or does it only count when it's something positive you can point to about the Tech guys? When was Terry Smith the QB coach? Stop the BS.
If true precisely what I did not want to see happen.
I don't think anyone cares if Franklin has success--how does that negatively impact us?You do? Wouldn’t that mean Franklin and VaTech would be successful too ?
QB play certainly got better after Terry Smith was the head coach and Grunk improved under his leadership. Smith deserves credit for his development just as any other coach deserves credit or criticism for QB success during their tenure. When was Terry Smith the QB coach? Stop the BS.
Yep, and I think that a lot of our fans are surprised that their own personal dislike of Franklin isn't necessarily shared by the players he recruited and/or played for him. Obviously, many of them think highly of him.Just as Trace followed James from Vanderbilt
*JMU football is in about as bad shape as Iowa State right now.
Indiana went bigger and saferDon't care if he ends up at VT. I WAS worried that he'd end up at Indiana.
Yep...JMU is almost as bad of shape as UCLA was on October 4. 2025.JMU football is in about as bad shape as Iowa State right now.
Ever since Trace, Franklin became obsessed with running the QB's......running constant QB draws with clifford and allar was malpractice, even if it worked from time to time. I really like Grunk, shame he wants the abuse in Franklin's system.QB play certainly got better after Terry Smith was the head coach and Grunk seemed to improve under his leadership. Smith deserves credit for his development just as any other coach deserves credit or criticism for QB success during their tenure.
Franklin's development of Allar was an unqualified failure. Franklin had 4 years with a 5 star pocket passer QB who seemed to digress every year he was here. Allar went from a potential first round draft pick to who knows when he will get drafted. How much of the blame attributable to the player vs. the coach is debatable. To me, it appears Franklin's offense is not ideal for a pocket passer.
I think the kid will be able to compete. It's not like he's a slouch. He has a couple things they will want to correct but he's ok as is and will get much better. I wouldn't be to quick to write him off.I feel bad for that Freshman QB who actually committed here. Hes going to get pushed aside.
Too mush ISU.
I hope our fans are intelligent enough to realize success at VT in ACC would not necessarily equate to him having sustained success in B1G.
Wait, I am giving too much credit to some on here.
Reality is we will never know for sure.
He could portal out of there after next season as well. The “grass” is always greener, or should I say “money.”Ever since Trace, Franklin became obsessed with running the QB's......running constant QB draws with clifford and allar was malpractice, even if it worked from time to time. It's not like they won their conference- or came close.Ironic that some fans think success at Iowa state will equate more success in the B10..
It's not like they won their conference- or came close.
I remain cautiously optimistic, but those thinking that this is going to be a quick climb to greatness are living in a dream world.

Are you new around here (I know you’re not), every game is big next year. It will determine how long it takes for some of the wackos to call the Campbell hiring poor horrible and want him fired.Neither does PSU, FWIW
I haven’t seen anyone predict “a quick climb to greatness.” I did see many posters predict doom and gloom for PSU during the lengthy coaching search process that included the decimation of the recruiting class. We‘re clearly in the wait and see mode, but I’ll predict 8-4 at worst next year, no disaster scenario, and am hopeful of a rebuild of team culture and future recruiting and portal success after this clearly aberrational year. It's not like they won their conference- or came close.

Campbell is cherry picking players from the team that he coached. He knows what they are capable of under his system. There is a greater chance at success grabbing players that he is intimately familiar with than grabbing players from other ACC teams / BIG 12 teams with similar success or grabbing players from lower rated conferences with greater statistical success. Obviously, grabbing studs from the BIG or SEC is optimal but you are generally going to have to over pay for these players. Given the across the board needs for PSU, PSU is simply not in a position to overpay for a single stud at this point. Overpaying for a proven stud receiver or a stud linebacker would have been justified last year given the returning talent and high expectations, but not this year. It's not like they won their conference- or came close.

MIAMI !I don't think anyone cares if Franklin has success--how does that negatively impact us?
Success in the ACC isn't impressive.
I would regard 8-4 or better as a good first season for the new staff. 9-3 would be great.I haven’t seen anyone predict “a quick climb to greatness.” I did see many posters predict doom and gloom for PSU during the lengthy coaching search process that included the decimation of the recruiting class. And I don’t see anyone “condemning” Grunk for transferring to VT — many just believe he’s being shortsighted in returning to play under coaches and a system that seem ill suited to his skill set.
I don't disagree. I'm just keeping my expectations reasonable.Campbell is cherry picking players from the team that he coached. He knows what they are capable of under his system. I don't have a problem with him doing--I think he's just stupid for doing that. Just like Allar was stupid for stayinghypocrisy= QB follows Campbell to PSU- commendable
QB follows Franklin to VT-condemnable
Who many thought shouldn't even have been in the playoff, right?MIAMI !
What a disgrace. We lost to a team without a coaching staff.Yep...JMU is almost as bad of shape as UCLA was on October 4. 2025.

Nowhere did he mention Cignetti or Indiana, and everything he said was perfectly logical. But you certainly managed to use his post as a jumping off point for your negativity.Campbell is picking them all from one mediocre ISU team while cignetti recruited them from a dozen different teams.
And yet somehow they were better prepared. What a disgrace. We lost to a team without a coaching staff.
Considering the timing, did he have a lot of choice? I'm concerned as well, but he had very little time, and that's not on him.Campbell is picking them all from one mediocre ISU team while cignetti recruited them from a dozen different teams.
Well one has a track record of developing QBs and the other doesn't but sure lets call it hypocrisy.hypocrisy= QB follows Campbell to PSU- commendable

Not exactly. McSorley was a recruit who had not signed an LOI with, received financial aid from, or played a down for Vanderbilt.Just as Trace followed James from Vanderbilt
Opinions are meaningless.
