Earlier today, I posed the poignant question whether PSU was winning the portal. Someone, I forget who, responded by posting the following relevant article:

These posts were mysteriously removed. For f*ck’s sake. Anyway, some folks may be interested in the above article.

For f*ck’s sake.

This is rich. A LB that couldn’t beat out Deluca or Tatsch for playing time under James Franklin…..goes to play for James Franklin.

and Grunk is now heaped in with 3 players in similar class standing.

it’s like the Stockholm Syndrome.

Familiarity breeds contempt, from us.

really?

I removed a bunch of bickering posts, that were screwing up the thread/going OT. When I did that, I also removed the 2nd posting of the same article. I left the 1st -- all of 1 page up; see post 2,098.

With the benefit of hindsight, Franklin was not strong with roster management and NIL. A true weakness. Maybe that's an Andy Frank issue as well?

While we're seeing a lot of movement with Campbell/Hoddjer - it just seems to make much more sense. With rev share and NIL, the GM route really is the only way to go.

Thanks. I missed the first posting of the article because I have the “person“ on ignore, as do many here.

Bickering posts here? That’s a new one. 😞

ah, that makes sense.

For moderating purposes, I can't put anyone on ignore. In that context, I assume that everyone is seeing the same posts that I'm seeing.

No biggie.

Worth noting Doug Hendrickson also represents UW HC Jedd Fisch.

You’re kidding right?

Under Franklin Penn State’s WR room was one of the worst in the B1G and the country.

The fact that Franklin recruited so many project type players at a WR skill position should be alarming in a bad way.

Thank goodness Coach Campbell is clearing out the projects while keeping the few promising WRs on the current roster.

Best wishes to Matt Outten. I think he may have to drop down a level in competition. He was overmatched in the B1G.
To give a more charitable answer than I was afforded by this response: it could have been interesting to take the athletic talent of this receiver and see how Coach Pauley could refine his technique.

We could say the same about Conner and the lb room. We have more wrs in the NFL than actual LBs.

Ps. The wr room has more players in the NFL than ISU. That is not even counting kls and Harrison who led sec teams in receiving.

That begs the question of the WR's are good enough for NFL teams and are producing but yet did not produce at PSU. Why would that be? They obviously have the ability mentally and athletically to compete in the NFL but yet struggled at PSU.

Getting rid of tge receivers didn't fix the wr room did it? Was that your plan?

Tom, are there certain accounts on X that are forbidden to be posted in this thread?

not that I know of. For the most part, I've been replacing posts that have PSU Dylan's tweets, as throughout this process he's been taking what the kids post on their social media, or what is posted by one of the services, and using that to "break" the news. Not a biggie

We had good WR production thru most of the Franklin era. It’s only been the last 3 years that production dropped.

KLS and Wallace both left PSU and did better in their last college year elsewhere. Why? Position coaching? (Hagans started in ‘23)
Scheme? (Yurcich in ‘23, AK since)
QB? (Allar all 3 years)

I’d say, and what do I know, that it’s a bit of all three. It seems like Hagans isn’t that good a coach, AK’s scheme didn’t favor downfield passing, and I think Allar played timidly when it came to downfield passing (perhaps overcoached to avoid INTs) and had accuracy issues.

I also think the depth of PSU’s talent at the WR position has not been as good as it was 2016-2022.
