So happy to be 3-0. I hoped and thought we would go 3-0, but ya just never know and the first two wins were convincing, while today's win was a good one, but a lot closer than the score indicated. Yards were about even, at 319-302 in favor of VT, with them being very balanced and RU having 256 rushing yards, but only 46 passing yards, which was disappointing, so the fact we won by 35-16 was largely due, IMO, to us making more big plays and less mistakes: people laugh, sometimes at "the ball is the program" mantra of GS, but it matters. Here's a few plays highlighting this:

  • First play, bad mistake fumble by VT and we score immediately on a gorgeous wait-and-scamper run by Monangai.
  • Then VT has a very nice drive, but we stop them and then they miss a fairly short FG.
  • Then, after a VT FG, we see the best of Gavin Wimsatt as he absorbs a cheap shot for penalty and first down, then throws a gorgeous pass to Dremel for 23 and then he runs like a deer, untouched for a 34 yard TD. If we could bottle that, we wouldn't be worried at all about making a bowl - fantastic drive.
  • Later on VT throws an INT, which we didn't quite convert on, but it helped flip the field setting up the end of half TD.
  • And on that end of half TD, after another VT mistake (their horrible 13-yard punt), Dremel made a huge play to get that foot in the endzone (after yet another VT mistake on the PI call) to score with just 4 seconds left in the half.
  • Then in the 3Q, after being dominated by VT, we at least made a big play on that 2-pt conversion with the great tackle by Lewis to keep it 21-16.
  • And possibly the biggest play of the game (after grinding out two close first downs), Monangai broke that 55-yard TD in acres of open space to put us up 28-16, almost sealing the game
  • And while the stopping VT on 4th down and then pounding the snot out of them on the last TD drive didn't necessarily feature specific huge plays, I just loved the grit and determination those possessions showed for both the D and the O.
I could nitpick a bunch of things we could do better, like roll Gavin out more, like VT did effectively giving GW and our WRs more time to get open (which we struggled mightily with) or figure out how to stop a mobile QB better or make sure we don't let WRs get behind our guys in man coverage (luckily they missed a couple of those), but those are things for the coaches to fix, mostly and the bottom line is we're 3-0 and have outscored our opponents 95-30. What's not to like? Bring on the Wolverines!

They are playing smart football. They were plus 2 in turnovers today which played a big role. You rush for 250 yds and win the TO battle, you are probably winning. This works against teams they physically match up with. It will not work against the upper tier in the conference. The passing has to improve, I’m not sure we have the WRs or OL to do that. If we get to 6 wins it will be good progress.

What’s not to like ? Just a minor thing called the passing game. 46 yards ?

What I liked most again this week was a nearly penalty free game.
You realize it was a rhetorical question don't you? Yet you had to answer. If the biggest thing you liked from this game was lack of penalties, that kind of says it all.

I beg you, please. We should all just ignore that **** and let him play with himself. He is a misery and a Syracuse fan.
Funny…I’ve never once said a thing about Cuse. Not one time. I’ve said good things about UConn and about how the PSU scandal didn’t then and doesn’t now impact the fine academics there, same as here.

So, keep making up sh*t to deflect from the stupidity of believing the OC decides whether or not to go on 4th down. That’s some Asinine Hall of Fame stuff. Embarrass yourself much ?

So tell us all, once and for all — who is your favorite college football team?

The receivers looked to be getting open, and the pass protection was generally good.

Hadn't noticed any Cuse content from him, but maybe he's some previous poster? His penchant for focusing on the negative and/or the least possible positive item is annoying. We're 3-0 outscoring our opponents by 95-30, with a very good running game, a serviceable QB who's learning and improved, and a very good defense and all he can point to is less penalties (which is a good thing, but there are plenty of heavily penalized teams that do well).

I give you credit for trying to make your point, and we can all do whatever we want here, but I don't understand why a few posters continue to indulge the idiot. It's clear he has an agenda or a mental condition. You and others are not going to convince him if he is sincerely not happy with Greg/Rutger, but it seems quite clear he is a troll, and continuing to respond to him feeds the troll (and/or his condition).

I learned my lesson and put him on ignore a couple of weeks ago. This way I can resist the temptation to aggravate myself with his antics. You would think that with his team being 3-0, and I don't mean RU, he could just post about that.

If you go through all the B1G team stats- we sit on the very positive side of almost every category except passing yds.
Tied for 5th in scoring, 3rd in defensive scoring 1st in rushing yds- but the low passing does drop us to 10th in total. The D is 4 overall and number 2 in rushing yards against
number 2 in TOP we have the top RZ defense 7 RZ offense 5th fewest penalties

Those are numbers we have not seen in a long time. Also- as noted, the dumb mistakes of not getting plays in and forcing us to take TO's when needed.

And this is against 2 P5's and a G5...very few teams have played 2 P5's yet much less not play their cupcake.
