MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOGS
OVERALL: 13-5 (10-2 H, 2-0 A, 1-3 N)
SEC: 3-0 (2-0 H, 1-0 A)

Head Coach: Rick Stansbury
221-120 in 11th year at Mississippi State
221-120 in 11th year as a head coach

Barry Stewart connected on his 162nd-career 3-pointer against Vanderbilt, moving the junior into sole possession of fifth place in the MSU record books. Just ahead of him in fourth place with 162 is current Bulldogs assistant coach Marcus Grant ... Junior forward Jarvis Varnado now has 317 career blocks, one shy of Arkansas' Steven Hill for the fourth-most in SEC history ... Against the Commodores, sophomore guard Phil Turner collected a career-high four steals ... Mississippi State has been out-rebounded in four of the last five games, but still won each outing. During that stretch, MSU did win the battle of the boards against Western Kentucky (32-30) ... Against Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs drained seven treys, ending their streak of four-straight games with 11 or more ... In the last six games, State hasn't yielded more than six 3-pointers to any one team. During that stretch, it's allowed just 22 treys ... Against the Commodores, MSU coach Rick Stansbury earned his 90th-career SEC win, breaking the school-record of 89 set by Richard Williams.

I didn't know we had a 4 game streak of 11 or more 3 pointers snapped against Vandy. Pretty good stuff but hopefully Saturday wasn't any foreshadowing of Wednesday night.

So Barry Stewart hit his 162nd 3 pointer, putting him in 5th place...the guy in 4th place hit 162 in his career? Nice proofreading who ever wrote this.

LSU seems to be playing pretty well...

Our team is going to live and die by the 3 pointer this year, something new for MSU...

Stewart is 2 from tying Coach Grant for 4th place, so should of been 164
As far as cooling down from the 3 pt arc, we will see..but i would take into consideration going into the game vandy was the #1 defensive team in the nation.
In addition we still made 7 of 18 (.389), when compared to the other sec games we were 11 of 27 (.407)vs Ark, and 11 of 24 9.458) vs Bama.

LSU ranks ahead of us in 3pt FG%

They are ranked 12th in attempts per game however. Much easier for them to get their % up than us (ranked at 4th in attempts).

We are actually 4th if you calculated attempts/game. Not that that matters much though. I'm still suprised to see us that high since we throw up some many threes. I was always under the impression that the more threes you shoot the less you can expect to see the FT line. I guess its a combo of the fact that we have JV down low and our guards seem to be able to drive pretty effectively for once.
