3 Star Concern

While we are getting commitments in football, they are all 3 stars or lower. Our hit rate has not been good in recent classes. How are these players going to help us win more games? Is anyone else concerned?

I understand the portal changes the approach, but how does getting basically G5 players help us? If they do develop they will leave.

This season, I'm taking a break from getting emotionally invested in football. We'll still go to the games, but I'm not getting in too deep, just like the Croom error. Hopefully we can win 4-5 and build for a bowl in 2026.

Of the MSU head football coaches during my lifetime, they’ve all either been fired, promoted to Athletics Director, or died with the exception of Don Mellen so…

are you new GIF

By your rational, 3* players will leave if they become quality players so we should not sign them we should only sign the 4* and 5* players.

Makes sense to me***

Everyone will bail after that.

Anyone who gets surprised or upset about what happens this season has no one to blame but themselves. I’m not saying I’m happy or okay with state’s team, but why in the world would you emotionally invest yourself in what is coming? I will watch if I have nothing else going on. If a miracle happens I will pay more attention, but the days of me rearranging my entire life to watch state football are over for the time being. Unrelated, my wife appears to be a huge fan of the Lenny hire.

Ahh...the "I couldn't care less about football" replies to football posts - a Sixpack tradition like none other.

You know what I mean. It’s all relative. I don’t care about Syracuse’s lacrosse team. I will still follow state football. I’m just not emotionally invested at this point.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not going to help, and we’re gonna suck again this season. If we could rewind the clock about ten years, I’d have some hope in Lebby being able to develop these kids by the time they become juniors and seniors, but that’s really just not a reasonable strategy or expectation any longer.

It’s as obvious that Lebby is in over his head running an SEC football program as it was that Lemonis was done coaching baseball two years ago

He really does look like he doesn't have a clue how to turn this thing around.

Surprising that someone is blaming Leach for this mess. I wasnt on board with Lebby. Everywhere he coached he had an offensive minded head coach. It wasnt Lebby. It was Kiffin . Same deal at UCF. Maybe he will figure it out in 2 or 3 more years.

At some point you have to quit blaming the coach who died 3 years ago for why you suck today. And, by the way, that coach was 9-4 his last season. We have some of the dumbest fans imaginable.

And in fairness, I don't know why any of us should expect anything else. We hired someone that has never had this role to come into the SEC and turn around what many have labeled as an unprecedented situation. All with one of the smallest budgets in the conference and most things NIL/portal related working against him.

That said, this thing has shades of the Croom era all over again, and I get the feeling that Lebby's staff is going to tell us that they're getting "the guys that want to be here", that are willing to "outwork everyone else", or pick any other of the hundred coaching cliches that are used when you know that you're not competing with your counterparts.

He seems like a genuinely good dude, so I hope like hell that he figures it out, but when you go 2-10 in this league and come back to the fanbase with a plan to run it back with essentially everything that didn't work a season ago, that's not giving me the warm and fuzzies from a leader of one of out major sports program.

I think the team will be slightly better this year. They did pick up some real players from the portal this go round. The guys from Texas and Tennessee. I would be blown away if they won 5 games. I feel like it's gonna take a few years to claw our way to a winning record or bowl game. Much less get back where Leach had us

I plan to watch top matchups around the country. I want to be entertained. I have no desire to watch crap games anymore. May tune in 5 minutes here and there to State games out of curiosity but that’s probably it.

Vennabels at OU…. Defensive coach. So that theory isn’t gonna fly

I’m not sure how you make this blanket statement. He’s coached one year, inherited a mess from ZA and staff, Was a late start to the portal in 23/24 season . Dealt with un precedented injuries. And still was able to compete with UGA ASU TAM and OM with one of the worst rosters in P4
In his first full recruiting season had a top 17 portal class and a 27th ranked HS and JUCO class.
Let’s be honest the main issues most have with Lebby is he didn’t fire Hutz.. I get the sentiment but he did add two former HC in Rhodes and MAC both with defensive backgrounds
Let’s see what progress is made before we make a blanket statement he can’t turn it around.

I understand what you're saying and why you are saying it, but I was out of town for the egg bowl, was at the grand canyon, and only got to see a limited part of the game. I had it recorded and decided to watch it the other night and was blown away at how well we competed. We were light years ahead of where we were at the beginning of the season. That was nothing like the croom years where we still couldn't get lined up correctly in game 11 of any year of his tenure.

Lebby has gotten in a few talented players and recruited a talented Qb and got him on campus. Whether our record is much better this year or not is up for debate, but I do think we will play much better and be in games that we weren't able to be in last year. Lebby is competent, unlike Croom.

2 out of 3 ain't bad. Name a coach before Lebby took over at OU that didn't have a great offense. Everybody at OU puts up good numbers prior to the SEC. Next ?
Not sure what point you’re trying to make here. Other than I corrected you on the take. Does it help that OU got significantly worse offensively after Lebby took our job.
24 OU total offers 97th. MSU 86th
In 22 OU was ranked 33rd Lebbys first year total offense
In 23 OU was ranked 3rd total offense
In 21 OM offense was ranked 24
In 22 after Lebby left they dropped a bit to 29th

I hope with all my heart that Lebby makes me look like a damned fool this Fall, and just maybe we all can have a glimmer of hope that something can still be built here in spite of the NIL/portal challenges.

That said, what I expect to see is 3-4 wins, we’ll blame it all on another tough schedule, and then we’ll do it all over again in ‘26. Honestly, my worst fear is that like Croom, he actually does get some sort of signature win that tricks people into thinking that things are headed in the right direction, and then we hand out a brand new extension despite never having even topped 5 wins.

All we can do now is wait and see, and I’ll hope that the optimism that you and Bulldawg77 share is rewarded

Hahaha...I'm not sure what your point is either Jeff. Not sure where you got your stats either. 33.7 to 38.6 doesn't sound like they fell off after he left. Sounds like 5 points a game improvement.

Can you more precise in the numbers you presented. You don’t show your work or relevance
