I was there when we beat the Bear.

I had been a fan for 10 years already. That's right, been a State fan for 43 years and counting.

that whole weekend goes down as one of my all time favorites. Big time Halloween party, then the game and another big time party. Never will forget it.

My wife was there. She and FNL went without her mom and younger brother. They lived in Jackson and basically decided at the last minute to go. They both still have great memories of that day.
I did not go. A mere child of 12 in Arkansas, my favorite team was Pittsburg Steelers. My parents weren't big into college sports.

I was there with a sideline pass, a junior in college. It was a hard hitting

affair.

Our family of four was there...dead on the 50. We never missed games. I was a junior in HS. When we realized it was over, my Mother (her Dad played football at State in the 20's and had been going to games her entire life) turned to me with tears in her eyes and hugged my neck. I'll never forget the euphoria.

Yes , prior to The Game, I had been relegated to only Campus games. I was 13. Jackson games were for grown folks. My dad was tired of seeing the dozens & dozens of consecutive losses to Bama, so he decided to work(farm) instead that Saturday. My Op opened up when my Mother (Greatest Die Hard Dawg Fan Ever, God rest Her) decided she WAS going and needed a riding companion. I just got chills again just typing how awesome of a moment it was. We were about on the 20, halfway up , pressbox side, close to where the FINAL STAND was made. I still got the stub somewhere. Being a little bit superstitious, my dad made sure I went to all the remaining Jackson games that year, and boy were they all good. The Time and Place for a Boy of 13 could not have been better. that is a 1st Post there.

A friend and I sat right in the middle of the Alabama section with tickets given to us by his sister, an Alabama grad. We had to listen to comments all afternoon about how slow our team was, etc. but never got any abuse directed at us even though we probably deserved it. The man sitting right beside me was particularly vocal. Right at the end, after the fumble recovery he said: "we might lose this game". The shock in his voice almost made me feel sorry for him.

When it was over we walked around the inside of the stadium to the other side and celebrated for at least an hour. You won't go to many games like that in your lifetime.

Recounted the story many, many times....

I was on crutches from a farming accident, and was totally pissed I couldn't rush the field with my Dad and Brother.

If you weren't around then, you can't comprehend what a HUGE victory it was.... The high lasted well into the next spring.

Wasn't the first game in Jackson. 33 years ago was 1980, and we played virtually all our FB games in Jackson during the time I was at MSU, which was 1965-1970.

Maybe you were saying it was your first game in Jackson.

I'll be honest, no I wasn't and I guess I'll catch some **** (and well deserved) but I was actually at another in state game, of all places the USM Homecoming (so yeah, they had 11 fans there that day) I can explain though, I was in lust (no not love, lust) Mutual friend introduced us week before and we had a great time together. She blew off another date she already had, I went instead, got so obnoxious and drunk that I puked all night long. We got pulled over, cop for some reason let me keep driving, I took her to her dorm and never saw her again (her choice)

Yeah, I was there, too. Sure thought we had lost it when they got down on our 2 or 3 yard line at the end. You can't imagine the joy of State fans after that game. Think we won about 5 straight games at the end of that season-Miami, Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss. Bond was great running Bellard's wishbone.

Older brother was a equipment manager, I got on the field before the game when Bear Bryant and his team walked around the field, he came towards our sideline brother ask me if I wanted to get his autograph on our program. I was to intimidated but brother got probably the only one that day on a program. Later I mailed mine to Emory to get his. The most memorable state win ever for me.

Maybe you were saying it was your first game in Jackson.

I was actually a Rebel walking into the game, pulling for bama to win. When I saw the enthusiasm of the MSU fans....I said to myself, I'm going here in two years.

I was there, 8 yrs old. Taped the MSU 6, BAMA 3 bumper sticker to my door.
It stayed there for YEARS, but being a kid, I didn't grasp at the time how cool it was, and it eventually just dried out and faded away....kind of like our football team. Go figure.

Was there with the wife, four years after finishing at State. Still remember the older Bama fan sitting in front of us turning to her husband and saying in an incredulous voice, "Henry, I think they are going to upset us". I smiled, life was good.

I was there too

First State game. Remember Bear Bryant standing under the goal posts and walking the sidelines (I was on North side). Reagan/Bush signs and stickers. The fumble at the end of the game was right in front of me. The fans were crazy all over Jackson after the game. Cowbells ringing and Bulldog Blitz signs everywhere. Lot's of heavy drinking after game.
Leonard/Duran 2 was getting a lot of talk.

Had to be HIS or HER first game in Jackson. I closed the Choctaw Lounge many a time off State Street in the '60's. I remember going to Crechale's Restaurant on old Hwy 61 after many of those games.

I was there. Had just moved to Starkville from Jackson. Drove down to Jackson on Saturday. Great game. A player lived next to me in Starkville. He came over to my apartment the next day and he was fired up. Told me that when they were getting dressed after the game, he looked up and Bear Bryant walked in and talked to the team and congratulated them on the win and said that State beat them worse than the score. Thought that was a class move on Coach Bryant.

Was a student at Millsaps. Went over near halftime.....

I used to go over to all the Jackson games after halftime, when the ticket takers would leave and you could walk in. Prior to college, I wasn't a huge college football fan...but tended to lean towards Ole Miss because a lot of my friends and neighbors were Rebel fans. Anyway, I stopped being an Ole Miss fan when I actually met a bunch of their students and fans. This game:

soured me on Ole Miss forever. I walked over to the stadium, and there were 30 foot long tables with white cloth, and black servants in white coats serving fans with silver coasters and plates. When I got into the stadium, all the students were dressed like they were in church-dresses, blue suits, duckhead pants, and shitfaced from all the Chivas....and it was 95 degrees and half the guys were incoherent and the girls had makeup running down their faces. I thought to myself, "What a bunch of ostentatious, pretentious poltroons" (remember, I was going to Millsaps at the time and was using BIG words).

I liked the USM fans when they were in Jackson playing Ole Miss. I didn't realize until later that they only got up for State or Ole Miss, and stayed home when they played anybody else.

Anyway, back to my story: As I approached the stadium, a guy gave me two tickets, saying that he didn't need them. I used one to get in, and pocketed the other one. Little did I know that both tickets would be valuable. One of the reasons I went over was because State was staying close to Bama on the radio (0-0 at the time). I walked in, just in time to see Bammer hit a field goal. I thought to myself, "Here we go again". However, State came back in the second half, and Dana Moore hit two field goals.

My ticket was on the goal line where BIlly Jackson made his fumble recovery. After the game I made my way to the field where I hugged Larry Friday. I think some of you can see me wearing the blue long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans- weighed much less and had far more hair than I do now.

Cool story, Hansel.

I especially liked the part where you say that your entire irrational hatred for all thing Ole Miss can be traced back to a few students at one game that wasn't even in Oxford. Oh, I especially like how you freely admit that you CHOSE to be a Bulldog. You reminded everyone a few times that you did not, in fact, go to State and you are a private school product. That, to me at least, shows nothing more than someone who was actively made the decision to be a loser, because it's not like State was winning back in the 80's, either; so you sure as hell didn't jump on a bandwagon. Or, maybe you're just a masochist. I don't know. Either way, I'm sure your family is very proud.

Thanks for reminding me why I stopped rooting for Ole Miss....that, and some inbred, mush-mouthed country-**** calling me a "redneck" (sounds like "Raid Naik").

P.S. Your mascot is a soldier of the only American Army to lose a war.
