the King of Rock and Roll died. While I've never been an Elvis fan, I can appreciate the impact he had on music.

My uncle was head of security at Graceland for a few years when I was a kid and I was able to tour Graceland including a few areas not open to the public. I didn't get it then and still don't but his fans were loyal to a fault.

A few years ago my son had a baseball tournament in Tupelo and between games we toured the museum. It was cool to see once but they were bringing guests in by the bus load and became crowded quickly.

I remember I was swimming at the Shelain Court Motel pool in Aberdeen, MS
My aunt and cousin had the room door open and it came on TV that The King had just passed away at Baptist Hospital.
I think he was probably dead before they even took him out of the bathroom.

Was playing wiffle ball in my neighbor friend’s parents’ backyard. His Mom came to the back door and hollered to us kids, “Elvis died!”

I was painting my cousin's house when it came over the radio. I wasn't a big fan but it did stun me. I grew up in Whitehaven and attended Graceland Christian Church next door to his house. We used to climb up on the wall and look into his yard. We saw some of the cars he owned.

I can remember being bummed that all the coverage in mempho was on that.

On a side, my neighbor who was a year older was a tour guide at Graceland. She was fine, a pageant participant for a while

I was in grade school and saw the news the pre-school morning after on WTVA. (Or whatever the call-sign was then) Ran to tell my mom, and while it wasn't her quote, it was basically "That's nice dear."

My dad saw him put on a show in Big Creek, MS and said he only paid a dime to get in.

Bit of trivia: He dated a girl from Vicksburg who later married Johnny Brewer who attended Redwood High School north of Vicksburg and played a number of years for the Cleveland Browns and also played at OM.

I was pissed. The next day was my 1st birthday and that fat fùcker in a jumpsuit took all the attention away. You could tell when they were singing Happy Birthday everyone’s mind was in Memphis.

My parents took me to the last Elvis concert in Memphis during the 1976 Mid South. My dad paid someone that worked for a business associate in Memphis to spend the night in line for the tickets. I was 10 years old.

Extra points for mentioning Shelain’s. They had a pretty good restaurant too. One of my parents’ go tos.
