It wasn't pretty, but it's a win. I hate how the lack of discipline kills this teams momentum at times. I love how they make adjustments. Our OL was getting dominated at one point and what does NU do? They ram it down their throats to take the lead and put it out of reach. Love it.

This is one tough group. It's starts and ends with Riley. The 4th BELONGS TO US!

Being Iowa, and losing to FCS teams is bad, mKay. Being Nebraska, and being 5-0 is good, mKay..

Saw that Indiana beat Michigan State in OT. Seeing some of the other scores around the country, it seems CFB parity is even greater than it used to be. There are lots of teams that are taking wins this year that you would not expect. I'm sort of keeping an eye on Maryland as well even though they haven't been tested yet.

One thing I noticed, outside of the Oregon game, our defense has held opponents to between 10 and 17 points. That's actually not too bad. There were times today though that we were getting gashed and abused in the running game. Part of that I think was the scheme. The other part, I thought was the line & linebackers. It seems we are either out of position or sloppy in tackling. There were times both lines were getting thumped by Illinois. We have to fix that.

Good to see the team rally though and what a day for Newby. I swear that kid looked like a completely different back yesterday.

Glad to be undefeated.

The linebackers should be put on a milk carton. They have not shown up the last few games.

Yeah lol.. but I guess the good news is they have 2 weeks to figure it out. Indiana being a big passing team, we will probably scheme it similar to yesterday. Don't tell anyone, but we are seeing a lot of 'bend don't break' the last couple of weeks. :)

If we continue to play like we did yesterday Nebraska is going to lose 3 games.

Sloppy tackling after the fact we were gouged at times in the running game of the Illini.
In the first half we had a chance to go up 14-0 and we had 3 consecutive penalty's to make a 3rd and 25 clear back at midfield.

The horse collar on TA saved our bacon late in the 3rdQ without that we very well may have been upset again by Illinois..

Indiana has me worried they are a better team than some of us think and will be our toughest game up till this point of the season.

It was an ugly win in my book. But that's football with college kids. They are not always going to bring their best effort. Years ago, many of the fanatics on this board and RSS couldn't bring themselves to accept a win like this, but after last year I think we all should appreciate being about to put a team away the way Riley's boys did yesterday.

College football is a different animal than it was a few years ago. It's not uncommon to see ranked teams struggling to win against unranked reams. Hell, Baylor had to come back to beat Iowa State. Wisconsin was taken to the end by Georgia St. Teams all over have good athletes on them. It seems like we see this more and more each week. We are rebuilding. I will take a win like this and move on.

Yeah, I am ecstatic to be 5-0. It's a lot more fun than being 2-3. But that doesn't lessen my concern for what looks like short comings of this team. The run defense, the penalties, the Tommy-ball at least once a game, the injuries and getting dominated on the o-line for 3 quarters.

Again, I am pumped to be 5-0. But Indiana isn't a gimmie, Wisconsin looks really good (and not near as best up as I thought they would be at this point in the season), and Ohio State is Ohio State. There are 2-4 losses staring at us if they don't get healthy and fix some glaring issues.

Call me crazy but after this weekend, watching an offense like Ohio State tear Wisconsin's defense up, I think everyone will feel much better about that game. Their defense will be eaten alive by QB run game and actual WRs. Their offense has been pretty average to bad most of the season as well.

Just my 2 cents but we were always going to lose 3 games this year, maybe more.

Kaz you're right. But apparently it's hard to erase 30 years of domination from my brain. If we weren't so effing awesome for so long I think it would be easier to watch us struggle against average teams now.

Ths a scheduling is really doing us a favor this year. We hit NW at the perfect time. Indiana and Wisconsin will be coming off really tough games. Indiana with MSU and Ohio St, Whisky with MSU, Michigan, OSU and Iowa. Ouch! Our bye week is perfect for us to heal up and regroup. I think for these reasons we have a great shot at games down the stretch. Losing to OSU on the road won't hurt a bit since we might have another crack at them when it really counts. Gonna be a fun ride!

Indiana gets Ohio State this week before our game. HUGE.

5-0 with warts is better than the 2-3 record with warts that we had last year. NU's 5th win in 2015 came on November 14th - a full 6 weeks from now. NU should have been 5-0 last year at this time, but shot themselves in the foot over and over. This, NU still shoots themselves in the foot, but at least this year they eventually stop shooting.

For a long time, we've seen opponents seem to sit back and wait for NU to screw up so badly that they beat themselves. This year - while still mistake prone - they have tightened up enough that the other teams have been making the catastrophic errors on which NU pounces.

The rest of NU's season might hinge on whether Carter and Westerkamp can continue. Those two are giant weapons for NU. Opposing defenses will struggle accounting for those two along with Armstrong. Without them, NU become exponentially easier to defend. A healthy WesterKamp, Carter, (and throw Moore in there, too) may be the difference between a 8-9 win regular season and a 10-11 win regular season.

We may have warts but this team is finding a way to win this year instead of losing. I take that as a very good sign. We are in decent shape in the west, Iowa is in full meltdown and the dline is getting better , so far so good this year. We most likely are going to lose 2 to 3 games but if we are competitive in all the games I would count the season as a step forward
