5 nicest golf courses in Mississippi

I'm not that familiar with all the really nice golf courses but from hearing people talk these are justsome that I've heard are the nicest in the state.

1)Dancing Rabbit
2)Country Club of Jackson
3)Annandale
4)The Grand Bear
5)Reunion

Would this be roughly accurate? How would you rank them?

I would think Annandale and Reunion would be nicer than Jackson Country Club, but I haven't been out there in forever. Could be wrong.

Preserve is nice as well.

I heard someone say just the other day that Country Club of Jackson was nicer than Annandale. I have no idea though. He works or either has worked at Annandale too.

Old Waverly has to be on that list. In my opinion it is better than Dancing Rabbit and Annandale.

it is bbbboooorrrrriinnnng. typical of the down and back courses of the 60's. dancing rabbit, reunion, annandale, old waverly and prob Hattiesburg cc would be mine. the grand bear has devolved into a goat ranch since katrina. fallen oak IMO is a pristine course but again sort of boring....dog leg right/left, hit it toward the oak tree over the sand trap in the corner of the dogleg.....over and over. happened to play it about 6 times over a 3 week period and after initially thinking it was great decided i'd hate for it to be my home course.

as far as being kept up, but it's layout is just old.

I'd put both Choctaw courses above it as far as layouts go, although the last time I was there only the Azalea course (i think that's the name) was in good shape. Haven't played Anandale, Reunion, or Hattiesburg CC, but I would go

(1) Old Waverly, (2) the Preserve, (3) Grand Bear, (4) Dancing Rabbit (the azalea course?), (5) the other choctaw course (although I actually really liked the layout better, much more interesting elevation changes, the grass they picked for the fairways couldn't handle MS heat), (6) Fallen Oak.

I haven't heard anybody else put Fallen Oak outside of their top three, it just doesn't do it for me, although it is the nicest course I've played as far as being maintained. Not sure I even saw a divot the whole day.

I played a lot of cheap golf during and after college at the Van Hook National Goat Ranch. I rode through there the other day wishing it was back.

Greens are really nice and the trees have grown up to help guard the fairways a little better. Its not near the pasture it use to be. Much better course now.<div>

being from grenada area....dogwoods is/will be very nice. I say that from a design/layout stand point and difficulty. It is sort of a links style course set in corp of engineer hardwoods. They leave the grass long and whispy from tee box to fairway and right and left of fairway. It plays about 7100-7300 from the tips and is all you want and a bag of chips. a 270 yard par three. The course is cut right around the edges of Grenada lake and has some great vistas. It could play as hard as you want if they set pins on high points and such. It needs some time to get on that level shape wise. It needs punching, sand, water etc to soften it up some. Still a little hard since it is so young. Layout wise, it is/will beamong the best in Miss.

but I wish you could see the lake. However, like you said, you better have your A game because if you miss drives left, right, short, or any mid range or chip shot long, you are going to have a VERY long day. The layout and design makes it very unforgiving if you miss. I've played with guys that just love to rip drives If you are playing any other course, it's easier to get around it since most people don't hesitate to play a ball off a neighboring fairway. The Dogwoods doesn't let you do that.

With that said, it is by far the most challenging course I have played. Well worth the $35. +1 from me.

I haven't gotten a chance to play some of the more expensive courses (Annendale, Dancing Rabbit, Waverly), so I can't give an opinion. The MSU course has gone downhill some, I think. The fairways are HIGHLY inconsistent... either mud slops or hard as rocks and I think they are slipping some on the upkeep. However, they just redesigned holes 10 and 18, as well as added a few new ranges, so I imagine that's where their resources are going.

It can play real long and is treacherous from the tee boxes...so you can't just be long. So if you get it in the fairway you have to really hit it in certain spots on the greens too. Lots of green protected by heavy slopes, bunkers, and elevated green so in some cases you have to hit it high to hold the green.

I think the group that designed it didvery fine job going new age...no side by side holes at all. I have played with some guys out there that played college golf at Bama and they agreed it was fierce unless you hit it pretty dang straight.

I really enjoy it.

CCJ is nice.....not as great as everyone makes it out to be......Deerfield in top shape > CCJ in top shape (for metro jackson peeps)

What i took from it was:
-windy
-long(could be because of the wind)
-sparse around it, terrible scenery
-good condition
-greens were still so new that they hadnt relaxed...bouncy on approach and putting.

Spent many a day out there with my friends trying to grasp it. If you didn't mind the crack heads running out in the fairway and stealing your balls then trying to sell them back to you on the back nine it was an OK place to play

and a great value, we played it last summer and it was in great condition. My favorite is Riverbirch in Amory it's the best (non private) in the "Tupelo" area. I agree about Hugh White State Park/ Dogwoods course it's great, but I haven't played it in over a year.

Awesome course for the price. I'm a high-handicapper but I've played Waverly and Dancing Rabbit, walked the course at Annandale and played plenty of rounds on the Flora-Bama coast. This one's fantastic. You won't believe it compared to what you've paid elsewhere.
