but I wish you could see the lake. However, like you said, you better have your A game because if you miss drives left, right, short, or any mid range or chip shot long, you are going to have a VERY long day. The layout and design makes it very unforgiving if you miss. I've played with guys that just love to rip drives If you are playing any other course, it's easier to get around it since most people don't hesitate to play a ball off a neighboring fairway. The Dogwoods doesn't let you do that.
With that said, it is by far the most challenging course I have played. Well worth the $35. +1 from me.
I haven't gotten a chance to play some of the more expensive courses (Annendale, Dancing Rabbit, Waverly), so I can't give an opinion. The MSU course has gone downhill some, I think. The fairways are HIGHLY inconsistent... either mud slops or hard as rocks and I think they are slipping some on the upkeep. However, they just redesigned holes 10 and 18, as well as added a few new ranges, so I imagine that's where their resources are going.
