I noticed in the Auburn game, our tail backs were seeing quite a few reps at receiver positions. Are our 5 receiver sets using the same personnel as some of the as some of our run-oriented sets?

I also noticed Perkins and Ballard on the field at the same time. I guess when you put Perkins, Ballard, and Green out there all at the same time you could be in a 2-RB spread formation or a 5 receiver formation. All those guys are fast enough to play slot receiver spots.

Sounds good in theory - that a single personnel package could execute both running plays and 5-receiver set pass plays. In theory, it could give a defense fits about what personnel they want to put on the field.

Unfortunately, the said theory didn't bother Auburn too much.

Seeing that LSU is giving up 44 rushing yards per game we may as well just run 5 wide all the time. It's not like we're gonna beat the mother17ers anyway.

gimicky *** **** run, that if successful, might give us a shot to win the game. Something akin to the A-11...I'm sure LSU hasnt seen anything like this before.

was probably because traditionally in the spread, sometimes the play is "tipped" by what side the running back is to the QB. If he stands to the right of the QB, and it's a running play, a lot of times the play is going to the left, and vice versa. That's one of the criticism of the spread- lots of outside running and not as much inside power running.

Dan is doing some things that make us more unpredictable in the running game- like the pistol formation stuff, and in this case putting the running back in motion so that the defense won't know where he is setting up until right before the snap. Plus, if we come out in a 5 WR set, the defense is going to automatically think it's a pass or a QB sneak with Relf. It's even more unpredictable with two running backs split out at WR. And we can also use Bumphis as a slotback as well.
