All due respect to Rochester but the 5A state champion will be from the North, Saint Rita, Sterling, Sycamore, Montini or JCA,
5A much tougher than 4A IMO

But with a sophomore team.JCA's gone south though!
1. I don't hate Rochester, and few do. The complaints about them were for not petitioning up
2. Their coaching staff is definitely top 10, maybe 5, in the state
3. Who's writing them off?
Response to your

He may have been referring to the fact that Joliet Catholic is in the southern portion of the playoff bracket. But with a sophomore team.
I did and disagree. I'm actually a big Rochester fan and enjoy watching them in the summer in 7 on 7 and love their coach
But I don't think this Rochester team is as good as past teams. JCA controls the clock and keeps the ball away from the Rochester offense. JCA wins this game by 17.
Idk bout the freshman unless they had alot playing up. Not overly impressive against Rita or Rice.Spot on as usual, JCHillmen. I will say, though, in the next few years (2020 & 2021) JCA has a chance to approach the levels of some of their teams from the early to mid 2000's. Their current Frosh to Junior talent level is very, very good.
That's why wish they'd do 1-32. Chance to do some different traveling is fun part of the playoffs. All due respect to both Rochester and JCA but there’s a good possibility of both those games going through Morris at home if Morris beats SHG and as JC knows that’s no easy place to play if memory serves me correct JC is 0-2 in Morris.
I was at the JC-Morris round 2 2011. JC won pretty easily. All due respect to both Rochester and JCA but there’s a good possibility of both those games going through Morris at home if Morris beats SHG and as JC knows that’s no easy place to play if memory serves me correct JC is 0-2 in Morris.
Incorrect. JC dismantled Morris in round 2 in 2011. Running clock at Morris. But that obviously means nothing for this season. All due respect to both Rochester and JCA but there’s a good possibility of both those games going through Morris at home if Morris beats SHG and as JC knows that’s no easy place to play if memory serves me correct JC is 0-2 in Morris.
Morris player Rita early 2000 I think about week 2 and I believe Rita handled Morris pretty goodI think Morris would be a tough out for anyone in 5a. They are built to handle a Rochester type team, especially when it gets cold. There are some other teams down in that southern bracket built like that as well

IMHO, both South & North are wide open.
And 5a north is a 6 team race, at least. Which is why we need 1-32
and six classes!
Can you imagine a 1-32 bloodbath in 4A if there were 6 classes?
If I am not mistaken, you can still end up with a huge North / South (upper / lower) imbalance with 1-32 seeding, but it would be better maybe. And 5a north is a 6 team race, at least. Which is why we need 1-32

1-32 seeding is based on the premise that all 9-0 teams are better than the 8-1 teams and all the 8-1 teams are better than the 7-2 teams, etc.
What we really need is a strength of schedule seeding but that would hurt a lot of Chicago publics and/or closed conferences.
I don't think this JCA team nor most of their fan base believe they will cruise through anything.I'm intrigued by what Kankakee might do. One point loss to Crete-Monee, slaughtering everyone else, four seed. JCA just can't think they are going to cruise as the 9 seed - Morton is pretty good, then Mt. Zion has been beating some good teams, and the Kays have been lighting up some bad teams...

There may be a couple rabid fans or people outside their fan base that think so, but not the JCA community. We will take things one game at a time.
