His name was Michael Galatas and was a friend to a lot of us. He was a model of health and was found dead laying beside his couch. Walk on football player during the mid 80’s and was an all around great guy. One of the funnier guys you have ever met and a great singer. He was also the writer of The Pubdate which was hilarious to read in the earliest days of SixPackSpeak.

One of the old Pubdates

Special thanks go out to Rudy Richerts and Neal Vaughn for putting together the cookout this past Saturday. It was quite an event. And on that note...CONGRATULATIONS RUDY RICHERTS...MAY'S PUB PATRON OF THE MONTH! You have always been a loyal customer but anyone who overnights in their RV behind Snooky's truly deserves to be singled out credited. For your efforts, you have been awarded a half day internship with David Cobianchi, 49% owner of The Pub and agricultural sales representative. Your day will begin with a pre-dawn drive by The Pub to make sure no garbage or cars have been left in the barbershop parking lot next door. Then on to Bolton, MS, to begin your day of pulling soil samples, looking at cotton, redirecting crop dusters to spray the correct fields and taking irate phone calls from customers who got the wrong seed. If it rains, you will play ping-pong all morning. Congratulations aga! in, Rudy!

Sixpack Softball finished the regular season in grand fashion Monday night with a come from behind win in the last inning. Down 9-8 with 2 outs and nobody on in the top of the 7th, the sixpackers put together 4 straight hits to take a 12-9 lead and held the opponent scoreless in the bottom of the inning to preserve the victory. Asked about this gutty performance, Coach QuitBeggin in typical fashion deflected the praise from himself and turned his thoughts toward his favorite subject..."Has Ron Polk ever done anything like this? Does he have the kind of team with heart and desire that plays until the final out? Ron Polk could learn a lot from this team. Maybe he'll come to the tournament." Sixpack softball will probably earn a #3 seed in the upcoming tournament garnering an 8-2 record. We'll keep you posted.

Met Mike a couple of times at the old Bulldogs and Brent's on Fridays and maybe one of the basketball game watch parties we had back in the day. Just a super nice and friendly guy. Very shocking and sad when he died.

What a great read, and a great reminder not to take any days for granted... you couldn't find a bigger State fan, or a guy more full of life and universally liked. It makes me want to check and see if I still have some of those pubdates in my inbox. I will admit I teared up. And only some of it was from laughing at Coby.

Mike was a great friend of mine back in the day when we were students at State. Played lots of intramural sports together. Had lots of good times together. Roomed with Mike at our fraternity house in Spring 1989, if I remember correctly. Loved the guy, as many of us did.

Was shocked to hear of his death. I didn't keep in touch with Mike after we graduated, but still I am sad that he's no longer with us. I sure hope his wife and kids are doing good.

Thanks for posting this. Good to see Coby's name mentioned. He and I shared an apartment together in Jackson back in the day. Worked out at The Courthouse with Jud.

I was just thinking of past posters when reading this and Pine Grove Bully came to mind. I wonder how many we have lost over the years. I also wonder where posters just disappear to ..haven’t see Poopop in a good while

I didn’t realize it was original48 but his wife has bought tickets from me several times from posting on this page.

Seems like a wonderful lady and huge bulldog.

I recall his postings. Seemed to have a good handle on what he had to say.
Did not realize had been gone that long.

I’ve said this on here before, but it’s worth repeating: listen to your body… or listen to your wife. It literally saved my life a few years ago. I was in great shape, and in my late 40's when I had my heart attack. It was a “small” one, but catching it early kept me from having the “big” one the doctor said was coming sooner rather than later— and he told me I likely wouldn’t have survived unless I was already near a hospital.

The best part about the pub was when they would have a band and would lock the doors at midnight to close but remain open.
I thought the best part was the ICE COLD BEER (coldest in the state, they say). That, and the graffiti on the restroom walls.

I have a pub t-shirt with "Sum Ting Wong" on it somewhere.

Mrs Original48 here! I get most of my MSU news from you guys and lots of funny/dumb tidbits as well ha! Mike loved sixpack and was obsessed with all things MSU. We had been sitting by the fire on the night of Dec 8th talking about Dan and if he was leaving or not. He was texting with about 12 of you guys until probably midnight about Mullen. I just had surgery so he slept on the couch since he knew he would be snoring as usual (after several mandatory "are we gonna lose Dan" beers). He just didn't wake up the next morning. Found out later he had an enlarged heart due to high blood pressure even though he was taking BP medications. The heartbeat just got out of rhythm bc of the enlarged heart and it stopped. A pacemaker would have saved him if we had known, but we did not. He was 52 and the center of all of our worlds- even Newman our now 15 year old dog liked him best!

Sawyer is our oldest and she was a junior at State in 2019 and has graduated and is working and has bought her own house. Georgia was a freshman in 2019 and is now married and finishing grad school to be a high school counselor. Mike would be SO proud of his girls- if you knew him all that mattered was God and family and MSU. We miss him terribly! His biggest flaw is that he corrupted me into being the biggest State fan when all I had done before I met him was go to the games to wear the cute outfits. And then we subsequently did the same thing to our daughters! Sure would have been an easier path if we had made them fans of a powerhouse program! Kidding- we are all dawgs through and through. I appreciate the tickets several of you have gotten for us. We went to Omaha for him- it was on what would have been our 30th anniversary so I knew we were going to win before I got there. He was the funniest, most clever, selfless person we have ever known and are so lucky he was ours for as long as we had him. Thanks for remembering him and all you fools get your heart checked! A simple xray would have shown the enlarged heart. Pam

Pam! Thanks for posting this update. So many of us miss him whether it's comments on this site, in the softball dugout, the back porch, or making up random sports challenges with any ball/frisbee/golf club he could find and the neighbor's playground equipment. Your girls are beautiful and talented, and I know Mike is sitting up there watching you all with great pride and joy. Love to you all.

I guess I didn’t know who the poster was, but he’s from my hometown, so I remember when he died. I believe they lived down the street from me growing up (although he and his brother were gone by the time I came through). I can tell you he was a very loved guy in town. His mother is as sweet as they come. I hate to read this even now.
