it has worked pretty well. The games in Tokyo were huge. Team Japan drew 40,000 to a practice. That's almost as much for Alabama football. USA/Canada was played before 42,000, and was a great game, to say the least. The games in San Juan and Mexico City have done pretty well also. What about the Netherlands beating the mighty Dominican Republic? And now it looks like Australia is going to beat Mexico.
Most of the players that have participated have been very positive about the WBC.
Baseball has people around the world paying attention, and it's going to help popularize the sport around the world. It also is a good barometer for some of these countries like South Africa to see where they are and how far they have to go to be competitive. The WBC is going to cause youth programs to start around the world and you're going to see people like Mike Piazza going overseas to help teach the players and the coaches.
It has been nothing but successful.
