playing South Florida next who beat Florida Gulf Coast in double OT earlier this week. A little excitement and momentum now with the basketball program.

Thread hijack..if we go 3-1 in these next 4...USF, UNLV/SantaClara, Maryland ES, and UK...is there a chance for a sellout at the Hump for the Mississippi game?....

Played their best game of the year tonight especially Gavin who finally showed some ups. IJ Ready is very good, solid, stays very even keeled during the game, he can shoot also. Nothing but an upside to him. Sword is excellent on the dribble drive. Still need a shooter, power forward and another big but the team is getting better it will be up to Coach Ray with recruiting because so far he seems to be a pretty good coach. But time will tell.

Honestly, I wish, but probably not. The basketball atmosphere is dead. It is going to take something serious for it to even get back to the 2010 type days. Winning a bunch of non-con games isn't going to do it. There's really just not a single player on this roster I could get excited to go watch play. Maybe they win some games this year off of pure effort, but you need dynamic players to have an exciting atmosphere at MSU.

Did you SEE Craig Sword and IJ Ready tonight? Sword's 35 for his last 47 from the floor. But I guess that's not dynamic enough for you.

As they say "you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all the people all of the time". It will take time for the fans to come back but during this time of the year when the students are gone the Hump only averages maybe 2500 no matter what team has been on the floor.

Sword is playing at a different level. He just cannot be stopped from getting to the basket. If he'd make more free throws, he's be averaging 25 a game.

We made a sweet 16 team that returned 4 starters look very pedestrian.
"Dunk City" got no dunks and very few fast break points. I don't think the FGCU faithful down here thought it would go this way. On to Vegas!

Absolutely. The team played with a lot of intensity last night. That's all you can ask. If they can continue at that level, they might finish 500 or better. That would be quite an accomplishment in year two considering what RR inherited. Recruiting is the main question with RR. Jury still out there.

When SEC play begins he will be stopped. Mark it down.

sakes alive - we MIGHT actually have a decent team worth watching

and I never thought I would say that this early. Saw some good D last night and some smart ball decisions on offense. Becoming more and more rare in today's game. IF they play like that this year, we will be worth watching.

Clearly ...

Would be really nice to add another one of those to the team in about 2 weeks...

Guard play has 'stepped it up' and it shows. Two areas that HAVE to improve ... FT shooting and the bigs. As a team we are shooting 63% FTs and is going to cost us come games if we don't improve.

Ware had a great game last night but went down hard. We simply have very, very little 'big' depth.

Bigs options ... Is De'Runnya Wilson going to suit up after the bowl?

Noticed Travis Daniels on the bench. Understand that Ray wants to red shirt him this year BUT he is 6-8 and has a past history. I would rather use him now, even for half the year, & find out if he is willing to work and play Ray's style of defense first BB instead of waiting until next year and discovering he doesn't have the discipline Ray requires.

We have some quick hands on defense, really turning people over well. If

we can keep that up, improve our free throw shooting, rebounding, and outside shooting a little bit we can be respectable. I do appreciate the intensity and like watching them play like they did last night. If Ray can get two or three more decent players he is going to be ok.

Well, since no one else is going to play debbie downer this morning, I suppose I'll jump in. While I think we would have lost to a couple of these teams last year and I think that there's a sliver of hope that we're actually showing signs of progress, it's not often that you find an 8-2 team with ranked 189th in RPI. How does that happen you ask? Because we currently have the #332 ranked SOS out of 351 teams per CBS.

That's not a shot at the team. This young team needed this, and they need to learn what it feels like to win. That said, I have a bad feeling that we're all going to be in for a harsh reality check as soon as conference play starts. Either way, if we can somehow muster up a .500 season, it's a positive no matter how you slice it.

I agree we need some major help in the post.

Ray has to get one or two quality PF/C's in S-Vegas or he will be fired in 2 years...

We also need a true outside shooter...

In the postgame presser, RR said Daniels will start practicing with the team when they get back from Vegas/Christmas break, but that he intendsto redshirt him, doesn't feel its fair to the young man to cut him down to 1.5 years of play.

We won't have help in the post until next season. Just going to have to grind it out with a smaller lineup. I will say this - Roquez plays a lot bigger than he is.

I just disagree with Ray on the need to RS this year and this is 'why' ...

#1 Daniels is needed NOW more than he will next year
#2 We need some help down low due to lack of depth NOW
#3 If Daniels had passed that ONE class, he whould have been here last Fall; That's on Daniels, not on Ray
#4 Just seems to me that it would be better to get Daniels on the floor NOW, than to discover next year that he doesn't have the desire to play Ray's way
#5 IF Daniels can't play Ray's 'defense first' style or has discipline issues, Ray finds out about it THIS year and it frees up a space for next year

This guys stats in JUCO were underwhelmg. It's unlikely he'd make much of an impact this year.

Just to have another body with size would be helpful. We are really missing Wendell Lewis.
