This should make for some interesting discussion and off-season. Any one have the details on what the changes are?

Our local sports reporter on WGHP says football playoffs will try the "pod system". No conference opponents in the early rounds.

It's a modified pod system, and I like the concept.

As I understand it:
  • Only conference champions are guaranteed playoff berths...others are treated as wild cards based on overall record
  • The state will be split into four geographic regions...West, Midwest, Mideast, and East
  • In each region, teams will be seeded 1-16
  • Seeds will play opposite region...1 West vs 16 Midwest, 1 East vs 15 Mideast, etc, etc.
Interesting concept...should hold travel down somewhat while still mixing it up a bit. Also keeps a second place team in split conference with a 3-8 record from getting home field over a wild card with a 7-4 record for example.

The new "pod" system is almost a reverse of the previous one. Like the concept.
