Rutgers football letterwinner (1938-40) Albert “Burt” Hasbrouck scored the first touchdown in Rutgers Stadium history. It was a two-yard run against Hampden-Sydney College in a 32-0 shutout before 12,000 on October 22, 1938.

The next home game would be the sell-out of the Rutgers Stadium Dedicaton Game against Princeton on November 5th.

What was a sellout in those days?

And was it really a sellout, or just tickets sold?

And were fans allowed to bring in eggs?

Rutgers Stadium was built with a capacity of 22,500. Not only was it full for the Princeton game but seats were given to the construction workers who built the WPA project in the Great Depression to watch the game.

No eggs were harmed durng its creation.

And the school's total population in 1938 was between 2,000-3,000 students.
