Are they going to cross bracket the final 4 team in the 17/18 pods vs 19/ 20 pods this season?

I can't tell if they play football outside of Richmond and Virginia Beach area on VirginiaPreps.com. There is almost zero coverage outside of those 2 areas even though only one of six divisions from those areas won the state championship last year.

Very true statement, no respect for the rest of the state.

Someone (Rod?) can verify this, but Preps is, I believe, based out of the Beach area. Long, long way to go to get to games in other parts of the state, unless the game is going to be one of those games you just have to cover as a media source. Preps also has a few guys who live in the RVA on the staff. That is why they concentrate on those two areas. I think I remember seeing something quite a while back in one discussion where it was mentioned that Preps would welcome anyone who wanted to provide coverage and input on their areas. I live in NOVA and follow Westfield, so I try to do write-ups on their games on the 6A board. I try to just state what happened and give kudos to the kids who score, get turnovers, etc and avoid any real commentary on personal feelings or observations. Not because Preps might not like it; I sort of alienated the coaching staff a few years ago and since I support the team and work their games I try to keep those sort of observations off line. :)

I feel the same way. There was a day when there was a lot of coverage and I miss them. I love doing a weekly on the Battlefield. Used to have some meaning to it and would get some bantering going. Then it seemed the negativity outweighed the positive. Now ... I'm not even sure there are any Battlefield District fans that even read my weekly or anything else for that matter.

Where is everyone?????

Yes, Preps, and Rod and Matt are based in Tidewater. But I know for a fact Rod struggles to get reporters/writers in NOVA and SWV. We are lucky in the Richmond area to have Danny Lewis. Danny works tirelessly to report as much as he physically can. Remember this guys, these Preps guys all have regular jobs. Even Rod. They do what they do for the love of the game. What little money they make is just squat when you look at the hours and travel they commit.

I think many of you would be surprised at who actually follows the forum. Many more than you would think. Most people have a fear, or other reasons for not posting. ADs, coaches and other staff usually follow the forum, but for the obvious reason will not post. Dads are often reluctant to for concerns about being identified and making it awkward for their kid.

I would encourage everyone to consider writing up their team or district story each week. We need you to. This, unfortunately is about the only way many of us can hear the inside scoop from many areas of the state.

Do not fear someone harshly criticizing your reports. Respectfully disagreeing, for sure. But nothing that crosses the line will be tolerated. We have your back, I promise.

So tell us about your team's success or failures. Give us your analysis of what just happened..., or what will happen this Friday night! We look forward to hearing from you.

I thought about making another thread dedicated to the JD like last year's, which had pages of good discussion, but decided not to because of people always talking about how bad the district is. I appreciate the Battlefield write-ups from fans and use Gameday Magazine when I want to get my NoVA fix.

Will gladly take any suggestions / input you have on how we can beef up our coverage out West and in NoVa. In fact, am working on a piece on NoVa today amidst my other work (which includes for those that may / may not know or care covering Tidewater football for this site, the whole state for basketball for this site, writing for the UNC Rivals site Tar Heel Illustrated, doing a weekly show on ESPN Radio 94.1, covering a game tonight for the Suffolk-News Herald and occasional baby-sitting duties).

I simply would love to do more myself from a state perspective when it comes to football - my time and resources and just limited a bit...

Furthermore, it's out of my jurisdiction to go ahead and 'hire' someone to cover a specific area on a regular basis. That call would have to be made by the head man of this site. I can put you through the proper channels if interested in that regard - my e-mail is at the bottom of this post.

As always, anyone who would like to offer a Game Recap, a story on a player (be it just a recruiting piece or general article on a player and his season) or anything else - would be glad to take it and run it... drop me a line at [email protected]. And as always, I can be reached through here, e-mail, direct message on Twitter @ hatfieldsports if you see something on the boards that you feel is worthy of running on our front page.

I see the problem Matt, it's the occasional baby sitting that is stealing too much of your time. Get a Nanny! Just kidding, of course. THAT is and should be your #1 priority. Honestly, I do not know how you and Danny ever have time for anything. But please know this, we appreciate and enjoy what you do. Thank you.

Haha... good one. I'm actually the assistant to the main baby-sitter though and it's only two days a week for that, so it does open time for me to get the other work I have to get done. But I'm definitely brain-storming ways to improve our coverage and want to get the teams outside my main football coverage area (Tidewater) as much pub. Right now we are just limited from a manpower standpoint.

I do welcome any / all ideas and want the site to be as enjoyable for everyone + keep the discussions hopping because this has been a really unique year for football around the state so far in my opinion with more parity than there seems to have been in past years. Should hopefully make for a very fun postseason at all levels.

Lafayette, you and I are rapidly becoming the "Old Guys!" I have always enjoyed your posts. Hope you keep up the chatter! Your team was even nice enough to invite the Chargers down a couple times (early 2000's), let me freeze my rear end off, and send us home with an L!

I don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings but one thing I always try to do is keep it positive. This is High School Football and not the NCAA or the NFL. For me, it's all about the young men on the field. I will say that there was a day that the weekly Battlefield post I do netted me lots of hate mail. Thankfully, those days are gone.

I would just like to hear some more chatter about all the areas in the state.

Thanks for posting this.. I know how hard it is to get all the numbers :) EV should have 26 points not 25.6 (small change). 108 points for the wins, 18 power points and 4 classification points.. divide by 5 games = 26
I know we are still 6 weeks away or so, but I love all the potential match ups..

22 points for winning as a 4a team = 5x22= 110, (not 108)
Bonus points for wins by 4a Spotsylvania = 0
Bonus points for wins by 5a Orange, 2 wins X 2 points = 4
Bonus points for wins by 4a Chancellor, 3 wins X 2 points = 6
Bonus points for wins by 4a Sherando, 2 wins X 2 points = 4
Bonus points for wins by 3a Manassas Park, 1 win X 2 points = 2

Bonus points for 4a win over 3a Manassas Park = 2
(5a Orange would get bonus points because bonus goes to higher classification team)

110+0+4+6+4+2+2 = 128 / 5 = 25.6

2002 First round of the playoffs. Chancellor at Lafayette. Game time temp about 32 degrees. Wind blowing 30 knots (or it felt like it) right into the face of the visitors bleachers. KO scheduled for 7:30 but the refs went to the wrong field and KO happens just a few minutes after 8. Game goes to overtime! Lafayette wins it 27-21. Loooong cooooold game! I remember two things. First, my water bottle froze. I stuck it in the fence on the top of the bleachers behind me and it froze! Second ... my teeth chattered for a week!

@matthew328826

I know we talked about me doing more for the site, but I've been under the weather recently. I'm hoping to be able to do more soon. The work I've been doing for Gameday has been shorter articles luckily and I haven't done a game recap for Salem all year. I've taken notes in preparation to do a recap, but I just haven't had the energy thus far. I've been on antibiotics the last 3 weeks and I see some improvements. Hopefully I'll have more for you moving forward. Should be a good writeup by Robert Anderson for the Staunton River 5-0 William Byrd 3-1 pre-game comparing the amazing running games led by Jr RB Basham and Overstreet. I know it's not my work, but it will highlight this area. Now that I've talked it up hopefully he'll run something!

Thanks Mike and hopefully you feel better. Always appreciate your passion and info. I'll take a look at Robert's story - he does very good work for the RT.

Am going to try to do sort of a state type theme piece once a week similar to the one I did on NoVa yesterday that can be found on our front page. So hopefully that'll give me an opportunity to highlight a few of the Roanoke players / teams, time permitting, while still handling my other duties that include covering Tidewater football.
