A-11: the real spread offense

The gist is that it uses loopholes in the rules to have 11 players (though only 6 at any given time) eligible to receive a pass. Guys line up all over the field. At the last second before the snap, some of them (the henceforth ineligible ones) step forward and get set. So the defense only gets 1 second advance notice on who the eligible receivers are.

Last time I read about that I believe it said it was only legal in some states. But that article was speaking only about high school or lower and not the collegiate level.

...Overall though I think its pretty badass how some schools have excelled using the offense. Very confusing and tons of options.</p>

....thinking "oh not this **** again". It would be a PIA to try and monitor who's eligible and who's not, what's an illegal formation and what isn't, etc.

in the NCAA to try it. Hell, we have no o-line anyway. Teach Sherrod to snap, which I bet he can learn in the offseason. (Probably)

Plus, no one in the SEC knows how to defend the thing, it would take them at least a year to halfway figure it out. The officials would probably have no clue who was and who wasn't eligible even if we threw it to one of our ineligible guys for at least five years. Although I'm sure we would get penalized no less than four times for that against Alabama.

I'm tired of watching us have boring offenses like Jackie's get six fat guys and run behind them offense and throw it up and pray on third on long, and Croom's WTF? offense. Every year it's put nine in the box against MSU. It's embarassing. Plus, it's not like everyone else that can't haul in USC type talent like MSU is running the spread or some variation thereof. (I think it's pretty safe to assume that we will run the spread under Mullen) We would be cutting edge for once! And Mullen and Hudspeth are good enough and smart enough offensive coaches to not Tony Franklin this thing up.

I say we do it!

A kick has to "be imminent" for you to run this in college, and Texas (who uses college rules for HS football).

All you had to do was put 7 on the line. That explains why, back in the 1930's and 1940's, you had quarterbacks and running backs with linemen numbers.

If football were to make all players eligible receivers again, the A-11 would become the main offense of every team.

We have shown that we will kick from anywhere at anytime.

Another stupid NCAA rule.

the snap receiver is at least 7 yards behind the snapper, therefore canceling the numbering requirement. Plus, it involves a lot of shifts and the same guys-unlike conventional offenses-aren't always eligible, confusing the defenses on who is actually running a pass route. The officials, if they are worth their salt, will pick up on it quickly with simple mechanics and hand signals. We didn't see it in action this year, but expect to soon as it grows in popularity. One thing though, the films I've seen of teams running the A-11 show that those teams aren't very good. I guess they are trying to neutralize size, speed of the other teams' defeneses. But, it doesn't work.

It was talking about how some team in California that was easily overmatched within its division and league. So after having another ****** season (like only 2-4 wins and 8 losses) their coach switched over to the A-11 and they still lossed around 4 games that season but they competed really well with some of the best teams in the state of California. The offense can do miracles for teams but its like you said usually just teams that have a history for being turrible.
