I read on here several weeks back about the McKenzie back exercises and how they had helped several of you. There were quite a few testimonials and so I bought the book on Amazon for about 12 bucks and I am in my second week of doing these stretches ....

I cannot believe how accurate the book is on the progression of your back pain and the relief that you will feel. As I said, I'm in my second week, not able to do them every couple of hours like they recommend but my back is so much more manageable than it has been in......
25 years!! That's right. I have been getting a massage every 2 weeks for almost 4 years now, going to the chiropractor 8 or 10 times a year, and I can say that I expect a month or 2 from now that I won't be needing any of that. (I will probably still go for the occasional massage but they will be pleasurable. The massages I have been getting every 2 weeks hurt like hell.)

So, again, thanks so much to you guys for turning me on to McKenzie. It works!

Got any exercises for butt-hurt and sore ******? Seems to be an epidemic.

But seriously, congrats. Back pain can wreck your quality of life.

Yeah, looking at your board it seems Open Date kicked y'all's ***

I'm sure McKenzie could come up with something for it, I might need it before the end of the season

It actually appears that a few (not many) of us on here would rather see the Bears lose than us win. Don't think I've ever seen such a meltdown for a team that didn't even play.

That's if your problem is muscular or a disk. If it is a joint/arthritis my doctor told me Mckenzie can aggravate the pain, and there is a different program for that. Williams-- kind of the opposite of Mckenzie

Glad to hear that.

I am a Pilates believer. But there are many ways to exercise core muscles - abs, back, glues. These muslces make a huge, huge, huge difference in back health. Ciropractors, massages, and drugs are all temporary things that don't address root causes like core strength training and stretching.

It would be nice if there was a test stretch of some type to make sure you didn't make your problem worse. I know that I proceeded very slowly with these exercises before I felt like I wasn't going to paralyze myself by doing something stupid.

But I can say even since my original post here that my back is getting much much better which just shocks the **** out of me. 25 years.....

Can you walk very far now? That's my problem. I have two degenerated discs (basically gone), stenosis, and spondy-whatever. I can't walk more than a block without being in mortal pain. All I have to do though is sit down a couple minutes, then do another block. Lots of hip and right leg pain.

But I can still play golf, as long as I use a cart and don't have too many hills to walk up and down, with little problem. I get shots about every 10 weeks in my back for the pain. PT hasn't helped at all.

I may try your book.

Read it and proceed very slowly and I hope you will have great results. I never had my back diagnosed, so I really don't know where my issues originate. It seems muscular to me. But, there were many with some serious disc issues that responded to that original thread that got me interested. Yes, I can walk the back nine of the golf course that I live on, my back used to tighten up a lot. Not so much now but still does a little. I'm still just getting started though.. I'm only two weeks in.[

Whoa-- if the stenosis is from the joints and not the disk you may make it worse. Doc told me Rule ofThumb is if bending backwards is worst it might be a joint. If bending forward is worst it might be a disk or muscular. If it's worse with bending backwards Mckenzie may not be a good idea. This is not a "no pain no gain" deal.
