This is a mega cool phrase. KY1WING I think posted it on a thread. Who would be this kind of hire? WING said Mark Richt would be. Who else?

Richt is not a Cal level coach. Only Saban really compares and we aren't getting him.

Those types of guys in football don't look at UK as a destination place...

Cal was HC with a resume...proven record of success...known for being a recruiter and putting dudes in the league...

and I think he had always envisioned himself at UK...because UK basketball is the the elite of elite...

would have to essentially find a Saban, Harbaugh, Kelly, Meyer, etc...while they're still at Kent St, San Diego, New Hampshire, Bowling Green...

no doubt there is the next crop of great coaches out there somewhere...it's just that by the time people know who they are it will be too late for UK...

but I agree with the idea...that is exactly what UK needs...someone who is innovative, who can change the brand and market the program, who can communicate with the youth, etc...

The only remotely Cal-esque hire that would be on the board for a school like us would be Lane Kiffin.

Which I wouldn't necessarily be against, but we're at least a year away from that kind of talk.

Jim Tressel. He's won big before, at a big school, and he's had a run-in with the NCAA. He'd probably be interested. But we have to wait until after next season.

Lane Kiffin at UK would be a disaster.

We're already a disaster. I'm not 100% of this mindset, but think there's something to UK having to take a big swing (Petrino, Kiffin ... Tressel mentioned above is another one) to move the needle. We did it once when Newton hired Mumme ... and it was entertaining if nothing else.

I would love to see this and hope MB has his number on speed dial. Next year isn't going to be any better than this year unless MS makes some major changes in his staff. Right now it looks like Larry, Moe, and Curly are in charge.

Cal-esque would be Chip Kelly. Don't see it happening. We have to hit a homerun with an up and comer. Its the only viable way this program can attract a great coach.

No way I see Barnhart give Stoops anything less than two more years.
