A couple of questions on the survey.

First of all, I think it is a great idea. Boone should be so smart. But we all know he doesn't care what the cap 'n t-shirt crowd thinks.

Having said that, for those of you who thought the poll taken on the design of the basketball court was a farce, are you concerned that this might be more of the same? Do you really think the results of this survey could impact future decisions?

I think it could. I think that Byrne hopes it can. I believe he is sincere in his motives. Considering the amount of effort that has been spent putting this thing together, I think your input could make a difference. But, for whatever reason, even if the survey ultimately doesn't change thingsl, I still think it is a brilliant move. It immediately energizes the fanbase and that's a good thing. It makes everyone feel that they have ownership in the program. It's the AD saying I care what you think. In other words it's everything that the OM AD is not. Kudos to Byrne.

Unlike LT, and maybe Boone, I think Byrne realizes that there are a lot of people that don't give millions that love MSU just as much as the Bryan's and have good ideas.

I'll say this- I'm not one of those people that e-mails Byrne after every loss or anything like that. But after Polk tried to annoint Raffo as the HC, I was pretty upset, and just e-mailing Byrne and then knowing that he took the time to read it made me feel better. I don't think my e-mail necessarily had anything to do with us hiring John Cohen, but that was who I recommended.

I know that Byrne has people that monitor message boards, including this one, and I don't think it's for "watchdog" purposes, but rather to see how MSU people feel.

The funny thing about it is in my mind I was actually paying this board a compliment. Hence the Gates quote. But evidently it didn't work.

in what the fans think. I saw him work the crowd in last year's first basketball scrimage. He was personable and seemed to genuinely thank everyone for coming. I hate to admit this, but our facilities are in the bottom of the conference except for the Hump which is just too small. I filled out the survey because I believe that it does matter. Greg knows that all of our facilities mut be upgraded and it will take donations-large and small, bonds, and naming rights such as the U of Louisville's Papa John's stadium. It will take 5-10 years, but we are about to see major upgrades to our facilities and it can't come soon enough. I give through the Bulldog Club what I can and am willing to pay a little more for tickets or give donations to see this happen.

to come up with a research plan and survey like they have done.. it's not for show.
I do believe the basketball design was already decided before hand.

But in this instance you don't hire a marketing research firm in dallas just for show.
I'm sure he already has ideas of what he, Mullen, Cohen, and Stans would like to do..
but you have to find out just how big the marketplace is for MSU fans for the preminum seats...and thats what all it all boils down to.
How many private suites will we be able to sell in the 3 sports, and how many club suites should that be balanced with..and is anyone interested in the loge seats.
All valid questions, that he is being very smart about finding the answers before trying to break ground on any expansion..
especially in the volatile environment that is MSU Sports.

I once did something similar--right after Croom was hired I sent him a thought and suggested he hire McCorvey as his OC. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

I love the Hump and would not want a bigger arena unless we could ensure the seats would be right on top of the court like they are now and we wouldn't have a cavernous ceiling for the noise to escape to. One of the things that makes the Hump such a great arena is how loud it can make 10k people seem.

because the questions are more of a feasibility survey. It is gathering numbers of what how many people will pay certain amounts for certain premium seating. That is the best way to get that information. Now, it can't all be a perfect representation of who would pay when it came down to it, but it can give a decent idea of what they can sell.

Great idea by GB
