A couple of thoughts

1. ESPN says Miami will pay Golden right at 2 million per year. That's not the kind of money a "national caliber" program pays its HC. I think Miami has decidedly fallen far back into the pack now. In this day and age, you can't win big in Division I without spending some money. <div>
</div><div>2. Auburn had better enjoy this one. Malzahn and Cam are the whole reason they are where they are. Without some unforeseen home run hire at OC, I see a very mediocre Auburn team next year. Wouldn't if be something if it were bad enough that Chizik is fired within 2 or 3 years of a NC? I think it's safe to say that he was more of a figurehead in their rapid ascent.</div>

With out Cam and with Malzahn Auburn would have lost to SC, KY, MSU, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and Clemson. They are avearage team with out Cam Newton. Malzahn did not get them to where they are now. It was all Cam Newton. That's the bottom line. In my opionion Malzahn is a average coach. Vandy is putting too much money on the table if that 3 million is true.

They didn't have Newton or Dyer in 2009, yet they still had a good offense and won 8 games with a team that went 5-7 and had an offense outside the Top 100 the previous year.

I like Malzahn and think he's a good coach. Sure he benefitted from Newton this year, and Auburn is probably a 7-5 team this year without Newton, but without Newton or Malzahn, they're a 4-8 team. Next year, they could struggle to reach a bowl game unless they somehow find another good OC and buy another freak on offense.

That's my whole point. He has not proven to be worth that kind of money in my opinion.</p>

with it? All OC's, good or bad, have better offenses when they have better players.

You don't go from a high school coach to the HC of a D1 school in 5 years without being pretty damn good at what you do. I think Malzahn had a lot to do with Auburn's success, even though I thinkCam did make more impact than Malzahn did this year. Neil Caudle in Malzahn's system this year would have been terrible. They would have struggled to get 7 wins.

Vandy has to throw money at someone, so they might as well go after a guy with a system like Malzahn. Vandy has to start going above and beyond regular means to start winning. If that means throwing a ton of money to get someone they want, then they should do it. Malzahn's offense could help bridge the gapbetween Vandy and the rest of the SEC. So if that means throwing out a ton of money to do it, then so be it.

Vandy will not be able to get the atheletes for his offense. NAVY's coach has proven you can win with his stystem at a brain school.

to stay on as OC. So obviously Chizik thinks her pretty dang good. Yes Newton was awesome but anybody who watched Auburn's offense closely could see that what made Newton so effective was the offensive scheming drawn up by Malzahn.

you can't offer the hottest asst in America $1.2 million to come to Vandy.

Its a great move by Vandy and frankly, they got a better hire than Florida.

They are going to have to commit a little more to facilities. I hope with their willingness to pay a coach more they are going to spend money on everything else to give him the tools. Vandy has the money in endowments and it is a lot of money plus all the SEC money. Maybe they are taking the first steps.

People are talking about how good a recruiter Muschamp is. Recruiting hasn't been a problem for Florida, scoring points this yearwas their problem. If it's true Foley only interviewed Muschamp which I happen to not believe, what does that say about the current state of Florida? They've had a ton of discipline problems recently, and Brantley might be leaving. Why would they not approach someone besidesMuschamp for their job? I don't see how you can justify a Muschamp hire with5 or6goodname HC'sout there that would take that job.Or at least address your offensive problem and try and hire someone likeMalzahnthat knowshow to run an offense.
