....1) In hindsight, the game was probably lost on the first drive of the third quarter after Auburn's fumble. Carroll gets sacked on first down from the 32. Then we get the pass interference call to put us at the 24. Then, Dixon gets the ball up the gut and has two gaping openings. One to the right, one to the left. He would've easily gotten a first down, maybe a touchdown. Instead, he runs right into the pile. I swear, his vision absolutely sucks. On second down, he loses a yard. On third down, Carroll threw a perfect pass that McCrae dropped at the marker, which would've been a first down. Then the missed field goal.

...2) Auburn very nearly scored a couple of times after that. They had 2nd and goal from the two. And then the weakness of the spread was exposed. No power running game. They tried running it in from the shotgun twice. No dice. Then they missed that chip shot field goal.

...3) We had pretty good success on the spread option play to Ducre. He was getting 5 yards/pop for a while there. In fact, in the first half, we would've converted our first third down on that play, except for an illegal motion penalty. Don't know why we went away from it.

to run through and there were receivers to throw to. Croom's right about there being missed opportunities.

On the 4th and 15 play, we had a guy wide open dragging across the middle - I don't know if he gets the first but he had some room to run. Carroll had open field on two or three plays. We should have run a sneak on 4th and 1.

I hate watching a loss over and seeing what could have been.

Yes you do. Its the Sly Croom way. Same thing I hate about Stans sometimes. Overcoaching. If it works, then stop it. If it don't work, then keep trying it.

It was like the entire line bunched into one pile in the middle and created a fork in the road. I remember saying to my buddy, he could have gone right OR left there and been off to the races. Instead, right into the pile. He gets 3 options and chooses the only one that wont work. Thanks.

id have to say Dixon missed many big wide open holes in that game. he is attracted to the pile.

our offense gets the ball back after an AU turnover, near midfield. the crowd is pumped, the defense is pumped, and the offense even looks excited to run out onto the field. so, 1st and 10. carroll takes the step and drops back... and falls for a loss. i don't know if someone stepped on his foot or if he just tripped. either way, it was like all the air was let out of our balloon. it was the epitome of the "we are m-state" theory.

if we somehow gained yardage on that play, i think the momentum may have changed the end of the game.

whoever talked about the dixon play was dead on. everyone in my section just looked dumbfounded - how do you miss two holes and find the pile like that?

we also ran a little slip screen sometime in the fourth qtr to ducre on third and long. it would've worked, except one played grabbed him from behind. i still wonder why we didn't try those type plays more. i know their D was fast, but if your line is getting killed, do something different. we needed to get space for our RBs, and maybe a screen could've done that.</p>

It's hard to see the hole when you have you eyes squeezed shut because you think as soon as they hand it to you, you are gonna get the **** knocked out of you.
