A Four Hour Practice The Day Before A Game?

Cohen is quoted as saying this was the case....perhaps that is the norm, but to me, that is way overdone. It creates no atmosphere of relaxing and just simply playing. The day before a practice it seems that should be very loose and a simple hour or ninety minute review time.

our team had the unusual situation of hanging out in Nashville all day Thursday with not much else to do so why not use the time to try and improve. Obviously didn't seem to help much last night but I certainly don't think it was detrimental either.

Game on Tuesday. Game on Wednesday. 4 hour practice Thursday followed by a big SEC series Fri., Sat. and Sun. That is a bit much it seems to me. Whatever, it obviously didn't work.

say that the fact we were going against one of the top pitchers in the nation had more to do with us losing than a practice.

high school baseball is non stop. College baseball is a completely different level. There are many high school coaches who have no clue about the game and as a result they burn out many kids early and also hurt a lot of arms in the process. As a parent following your son playing baseball, it is a lot of long nights/days. As a player you wonder when you might have some time off. I am a firm believer in practice....organized, productive practices that are much shorter than 4 hours the day before a game.

That's the only reason I can think of that he would have a four hour practice. Like I said last night- they are in our heads from the coaching staff down.

I really think its much to do about nothing. Sure beats the guys laying around a hotel all day Thursday. We aren't talking about full court basketball here, baseball is a game about repetition and rhythm that really needs to be played most everyday. Heck, half of a baseball game the players playing it are sitting in a dugout on a bench anyway. Whether all the way out to 4 hours is needed can be debated but they were probably focusing on different aspects of the team throughout the session. The bottom line is if we had come out and competed better these first 2 games nobody would think anything about it one way or the other.

One thing no one has talked about is because we had a game Weds., we didn't get a chance to practice on Weds. So, it's possible that we had more to work on since we had to cram it into one day.

But I do agree with you in that it's really not that big of a deal one way or the other.
