A great defensive adjustment that I have not seen anyone else mention

This is just something that I have noticed our defense, usually Matt Wells, doing since the Music City Bowl, and I never noticed it before, but have noticed it a few times in the two games so far this season. It seems that every time someone tries to run a WR quick screen against us, a linebacker bull rushes the blocking WR and knocks him right into the guy catching the ball for a loss of 2-3 yards. It happened twice against Auburn, and I have only really noticed it happening since the MCB. Is this the way that you are supposed to defend against the QR quick screen? It sure is effective.

This is really bad for poor Troy, as they are an Air Raid squad, so they run that stuff 10+ times per game.

Anyone else notice this as a new thing, or have I not been paying attention?

I think it works as long as you have confidence in your Cornerbacks to not get beat 1 on 1. By bull rushing that guy, you basically take 1 defender out if they release for an intermediate to deep pass. I like it with our Corners who are good coverage guys and good tacklers. It is a helluva lot better than sitting on our heels waiting for them to make the quick pass and tackle them which always went for 5 yards.

When you think about it, their wide receivers aren't really accustomed to getting rushed like that in the blocking game. They usually have the upper hand because the people they block are trying to read what to do on a given play. Could be an issue if teams start throwing a Tight End out there to block our bull rusher.

We ran a couple of Wr screens against Auburn where we went 5 wide with a lineman split out on each side to block.

The best Defensive adjustment against Auburn came when Lawrence figured out the audible and started motioning everyone over for a 'sweep right', its exactly what they ran and when the running back got to the corner there were like five bulldogs stuffing his ***. Good stuff.

If Auburn had a lick of sense they would have ran a play action of that sweep motion sense we where selling out on it.
