Hmmm.. like that commentator, I would like to know how many fewer snaps the defense has had to defend this year compared to last. We often say how teh offenses of past years hurt the defense. A stat like that might actually tell us how much the offensive improvement means to everything.

Can't piss off one of the Golden Children in the B1G on the B1G Propaganda show.
I often think of Michigan and Ohio State as the "owners" of the Big Ten and BTN. They certainly have a lot of owner-style privileges. Perhaps that will lessen with the expansion next year.

The long first drive by RU allowed the defense to get their **** together. The d was seriously out of sorts on that first IU drive. Kirk called a magnificent first drive.

I have noticed this in the last 2 games. MSU also had a solid first drive. And then the D sort of figured it out.

Both games had limited tape on the QB. Doesn't mean lack of prep just need to identify their tendencies and how they want to play and make adjustments and we did that.
Agree- and MSU did a great job based on that- the last thing anyone expected was for their QB to be running it up the gut. But, we shut that down pretty quick.

As for Indiana- they moved the ball a little but we completely shut them down but they got lucky with Dixon's brain fart that allowed that WR to have half the field to himself when our D was about to crush the QB on 4th down.

Yes the defense was out of sorts on the first drive then shut them down, but remember it was 4th and long when they hit the Td. Flip made like his first mistake of the year , as he was right next to the receiver , then came up and let him drift back. Seeing the reply there was at least 2 Ru defenders to handle Sorsby if he ran it , so very suprised Flip made that mistake. Otherwise , we might have shut them out.

Agreed. Thats why I said they were out of sorts. They beat themselves on that drive a couple of times. Made mistakes they normally don't. Dixon has played lights out this year. Made an uncharacteristic mistake, can't be the deepest man on defense and let someone behind you. Something to learn from, because can't make that same mistake against the remainder of the schedule.

Defense often takes until their second series to adjust to whatever new wrinkle the opposing offense is using.

Against better teams you can’t start off in a big hole
Well , part of the allowing first drive Tds had to do with adjusting to an unknown QB , against Indiana, Michigan State . Staff has been very good but not great at adjusting once they see the new QB for a series. Still allowing QB’s to not only get flushed out of the pocket but to run for first downs up the middle and not setting the edge which Lewis and Bailey have to do a better job. Loyal got suckered again on the RPO to allow Sorsby to score just like Mordecai and MC Carthy did in Wisconsin and Michigan games. That has to be cleaned up during the bye week. It was obviously on tape from the Michigan game and Wisconsin and Indiana to a lesser extent burned us with crucial first downs or TD’s.
Now Ohio State has established QB in McCord so expect Haraysimiak and staff to be ready from the opening kickoff.

GS 1.0 was rife with similar opponent's 1st drives.

Makes me wonder if many schools have successful-ish first drives more than not.. because of rehearsing a script.

Shocked they didn’t comment on how little passing yards we have in the last game.
Should they focus on the negatives or maybe the fact that Greg has Rutgers rising from the Ash(es) and the team is now bowl eligible for the first time since 2014? I mean c'mon, they aren't the Star Liar.
