If he hadn't missed the last NYG exhibition game because of a leg issue, Vitcor Cruz may not have had the chance to show up in that game and who knows what happens?

The strange thing about that game was that UConn dedicated the game to the UConn player who died violently that week, and Brown also dedicated the game to the same player because they were friends off the field.

Such a weird coincidence that this was posted today. On this day, 14 years ago, I posted this on my Facebook page:

impressed a D1 football player with my athletic skills tonight. I mean, bowling is sort of athletic, right?

Tim Brown and his buddies were in the lane next to us, and as I recall, I had myself a night.

It is SILENT !!!
Head almost hit ceiling jumping up and down as brown was running down field
It was crazy that day in the stands- first- So many UConn fans really are ********. Most Rutgers fans were very respectful that day because of the death of their player. We even tailgated with some UConn fans. But as we are walking to the stadium alone with the group we tailgated with- we were still getting their AH fans trying to start **** with us...and all we would say "Today is not the day guys"
During the game- so back and forth. It was actually just a fun game as a sports fan.
But right before that play- their fans were becoming unbearable and they were pretty loud- that pass hit and you heard silence and then you hear the large number of Rutgers fans almost make it sound like a RU home game with how loud we got.
And then- the utter weight of the air just seems to crush down on them. It was great

Tim Brown was so good in our bowl games that I used to refer to him as Bowl-Game Brown

If my math is correct, in the 3 bowl games he played he had 10 receptions, 257 yards and 4 tds. What a deep threat!

I wish we could clone him

Like you, I was in those stands with my wife and right as that play concluded, I think I was the only one jumping and celebrating in a (rather quiet) sea of blue.

Was at that game with my wife. Was eerily silent when leaving the stadium after the game. Priceless

He was one of my favorite RU football players. Very exciting to watch. We were at that game and went nuts just like all of the RU fans in attendance. I'm glad that someone above mentioned the incredible coincidence that Tim's best friend was the player being mourned by the UConn fans and by Tim.

There may not be a more "iconic" moment in sports. And it is missed by 99% because it just isn't talked about. The fact that he and Jasper Howard were so close and we were the next game- the winning TD- Tim shows his number.
You just can't write that up even in Hollywood. It was incredible, insane and a moment that can't be repeated.

And almost no one knows of it.

Yes . It was odd . They were actually best friends
Brown wanted to go the funeral but Schiano cited academics . Then later in the year Schiano accepted a bowl that would be played during finals weeks. Odd

Word was that Tim did not have the necessary funds to fly to Florida & back to NJ

Until NIL, the NCAA published you looking at players the wrong way. Athletes were at the mercy of the NCAA who could change its mind at anytime.
Yeah- there were teams, players, coaches who got in trouble even if just buying a hamburger at the wrong time back then.

Yes I know that. But first of all , we don’t even know if this was the case with brown not attending the funeral. If it was , there had to be some backdoor way to get the kid a flight home.

On the record schiano said it was academics why brown didn’t attend . He said this in the postgame tv interview on the field.
I did find it odd for him to say that and then a few weeks later choose to play in a bowl during finals week (it was the crappy weed eater bowl too). I found that to be very hypocritical and I am a schiano fan

You do realize that all schools have contingencies for the football teams for the bowl/finals week..,

Original point was schiano was hypocritical in this instance.
Did you think that Greg was going to come out & say Tim’s family is poor & can’t afford a round trip airfare? Also this was a friend who was murdered not a family member & I believe that the NCAA allowed for the school to pay for a player to attend a funeral of a family member but no one was allowed to pay under these circumstances except his family

Are you saying that was the case ?
You know what happens when you ASSuME
I said I don’t know what the case was and all we should go by is what schiano put on record.

I'll go on record that it was partially both.
1) financially, it was a no go...talking about approx $1k round trip.
2) While a football team has approved policies in place to accomidate bowl games and finals- it is something that is being done for the entire team and not an individual. If you were to do the same for just a single player- it would fall into the extra credit/dance appreciation category. and that could be a huge issue

And I am not assuming but will say that it could be considered "hearsay" as it came from players on the team and not directly from Tim or Greg.

I know it as fact as I was involved with multiple people who tried to pay for the trip & had Greg tell us flat out that no one except his family could pay & that they did not have the means to pay

Ok thanks for breaking the case and embarrassing the family 15 years later

You truly are a moron
I am sure if someone asked Tim about it now- he would tell you "yeah- no way my family could pay for it at that time" Not sure why plum thinks it would embarrass the family. Not a ton of football player families just have a thousand or so laying around for something like that.
