No matter what comes down it will be a minor scratch compared to the SEC issues in the past. I believe when I was in school we had about half the teams on some form of probation and two others off probation but still in the "repeat offender" window. ESPN and CBS don't give the SEC a ****-ton of money because we are squeaky clean. They give us money because of the eyeballs that follow the SEC. Unlike other conferences, people in the SEC are fans of the conference. We watch all the SEC games, not just our own. This gives us tremendous power.

A&M is wanting to join the SEC because of the exposure and the money. The Texas State Legislature stopped them last time and cobbled together this destined to fail Big 12ish. But considering that Texas is pulling a huge portion of the money I don't see that lasting. A&M will most likely come to the SEC at some point but if they don't the NCAA will have little or nothing to do with that decision.

USC, Ohio State and Georgia Tech have all just had some degree of penalties assessed. These are all in supposedly in squeaky clean conferences. Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, North Carolina and Oregon are being investigated and on and on. The defunct Southwest Conference, which A & M was a member, dissolved due to corruptness: at one point all the schools were either on probation or being investigated. A & M will join the SEC in the next five years and it will be because it benefits both of us: they get money and exposure, we gain access to the Texas market.

and I firmly believe that conference expansion is still going to happen in the next few years. In the West, Oklahoma would be a good get as well, but I doubt that they would come if Okie State is not invited and I've heard that the SEC has no interest in Okie State. That leads me to my second choice in the West--Missouri: they have good, not great athletics but give us a foot in the door for the St Louis & Kansas City markets. These may be professional market cities, but plenty of people in the Midwest would begin to take more interest in the SEC. In the East, my two choices would be Florida State and Virginia Tech: this adds market into the Washington DC and Baltimore areas. I would be interested in North Carolina, but they will never leave the ACC or rivalries with Duke and NCSU. Virginia Tech has a brief history with the ACC and has good programs. The wildcard would be West Virginia. This stabs into the heart of the Big Ten/ Big East territory and I have heard that the SEC has some interest in them. Georgia Tech and Clemson add nothing to the conference that we don't already have.

So if we add two teams, TAMU and FSU.

If we add four, add Missouri and Virginia Tech.

I really don't want to see Missouri come into the SEC. They're too far away from everyone except Arkansas.

I think we take Clemson, if anyone. They don't add much, but it does bring in a fanbase that already acts like an SEC fanbase should. That will also make the USC-Clemson rivalry mean a lot more.

If UT goes to another conference then A&M can possibly move to the SEC. Otherwise they do exactlywhat UT (and the Texas legis;ature) tell them to do. I think we saw this clearly last time.</p>

If we could get them, North Carolina should be a slam dunk. Decent football, national power in basketball, baseball & most non-revenue sports. Huge TV market. Good academics (more of a bonus than a requirement). I doubt they'd leave the ACC by themselves, but they bring way too much to the table to not at least explore whether they may be interested. You're right about GA Tech and Clemson. They bring nothing, and especially not access to new markets which is what will drive this if it happens. FSU doesn't bring access to a new market either, but they're a national name and they do expand our access in the huge Florida market.</p>

But like you said, they aren't going to leave the ACC. Their basketball program looks down their nose at the SEC and would never leave the "prestige" of the ACC. Besides, could you imagine the fit Dick Vitale would throw not being able to see them play Duke twice a year? He'd **** his pants.

in comparison to the other conferences that are around us. They seem to be the most stable one next to us in the Southeastern region. If we were able to pick any 2 teams from there though I have to agree that North Carolina and FSU would no doubt be the 2 best options.
