....Bud Foster. Thoughts?

Not the top of my list, but we could do worse. And it's not necessarily a bad thing to hire a defensive guy. He'd essentially have to hire an OC and stay out of the offense (sounds nice, doesn't it).

before we decided to throw the bank at a proven coach. Foster is one of the best DC's in the country. However, Byrne has publically stated he wanted an offensive coach so I don't know how that jives w/ Foster. We could do worse (Dooley, Bower, etc.).

there are few programs in history that have made the turnaround that va tech has made--he is a solid guy.

....allegedly, to an offensive recruit, he is going to hire the best coach he can get. I just can't see Byrne eliminating all defensive folks right off the bat. I would imagine that in an interview, he would discuss offense with him and tell him that he wants a good offensive name for coordinator, or something like that.

I think Foster is a realistic name, and I'd take him over Dooley and Bower, but not before the names that we all want.

....he has been a part of turning an average program into a great program. That's a nice thing to put on your resume.

I'm suprised that it's taken four days for Foster's name to come up.

He'd be a great hire.

His players at VT love him and get up to play for him. He's been vocally disappointed with the offense at VT the past few years. Therefore, I don't think he would put up with crap on offense.

Also, he's waited his whole career to get a HC shot. I don't think he'd blow his chance by being stubbornly loyal to under-performing assistants.

All indications are that he'd be like Stoops and go out hire the OC that has given him the most trouble over the years and then let him do his job.

If we can't get one of the top five: Petersen, Patterson, Kelly, Riley or Leavitt, then Foster would be a great hire.

Foster would be awesome!

I like having a defensive guy because they usually have fire and aggression. The head coach has to manage and hold accountable the off and def coordinators. Doesn't matter which side they come from.

He can definitely coach defense. I know a guy who went to school up there and said that supposedly he chases the college tail pretty heavily and that's why he hasn't been anointed as head coach in waiting or anything like that.
