A recruiting weekend in oxford. This is how it works for those that don't know.

If you pay close attention to rebel message boards, you will notice that they get really excited and confident when a top recruit is visiting. They know that if they get them on campus, they have a really good shot and the following is why.

They have a well orchestrated operation from the very top to the very bottom. Everyone is made aware of the entire weekend so that students, boosters, and whoever will be able to rub elbows with recruits. I mean, if you are walking down the street or are at a bar and run into some random kid that is a little bigger than most, what is wrong with being extra nice.

They start out with the nightlife and have all of the students show up and cheer the recruits on and do whatever else they may be inclined to do (I have no direct knowledge that they have big enough whores to give out blowjobs and ******, but indications are that they might). This goes on for a couple of nights. At the end of the visit, out of state recruits that do not have big rebel boosters in their hometowns, that they have identified as being receptive will be introduced to an older gentleman. This older fella will let the recruit know that he will be there for him for the four years that he is away from his family. This of course takes place away from campus.

If the kid is from mississippi and is well known and a booster is active in that town, then usually, they have already been pitched to.

Now, I don't think you should ***** out your wife or daughter. If you want to do something like that, bring in a call girl.

But how do they coordinate all this without it being public knowledge/reported by all the newspapers?? You would think it would get out how hard they work to get everyone on the same page.

Why have we not learned how to do all this? Why can't we have a great party at some bar in Starkville and let it be known that it's where the recruits and their sponsors will be? Students would flock to that bar if this were the case.

Instead we let dumbasses bring them to "The Pony".

when all the journalists are olemiss, it is easy. Yancy used to post it on his boards, but I don't know if he still does or not.

How could they have set up anything that intricate in just a year? They didn't recruit this well until Freeze got there. I think it's the "Party School" thing which seems to grow every year and now they've got a coach and AD that not only allow it--they promote it. They let them storm the field after the Egg Bow. Party time! They've got that going for them, and they are using it. Meanwhile, Freeze et al put on the "aw shucks" Christian family hat for the parents--while their kid parties in town. And you are absolutely right about there being no downside whatsoever to having the whole town buying into the "be nice to every big kid you see"--especially if they are there with parents. There is no reason or excuse not to adopt that strategy/attitude.

they were doing all of this under nutt as well, they just weren't doing it to the extent they are this year with the high profile players. And don't think Mullen's **** talking didn't have anything to do with their extra effort. That has been my only real gripe with him.

Completely agree ALS, If we had kept the egg, there wouldn't be half of this drama. But by losing it, they went from moral victories to actual victories and I'm not sure I can remeber the last time those people were this fired up. To say all in is an understatement up there right now....

They also went out and got their gene chizik. Most schools thought auburn botched the hired, but auburn money was desperate to challenge Alabama. Would any school in the sec hire Hugh freeze, was Hugh a previous coach, would he give anything for the opportunity to coach in the sec, will he stand up to ole miss money ...who knows

State fans need to chill out and let this play out, do fall in their traps.

Here's our problem

Every year on our "big recruiting" weekend, we take the recruits to Rick's one night and to the Sigma Chi house the other night. Depending on what's going on at Rick's its usually a small crowd consisting of mainly Starkville locals there without any idea that recruits are there. I was there last year when US was playing Sweet Home Alabama and the whole crowd said "Roll Tide Roll". The Sigma Chi party is just as much for Sigma Chi as it is for the recruits. There's a reason one of them was posting on recruits' Facebook walls bragging about taking them to the pony. All for him to promote himself. The party has been successful in the past, but it has also been lame. If you're not a Sigma Chi, you can't go unless you're a recruit and then all the girls that show up are just there for the Sigma Chi's and not the recruits. We have to start doing better than this.

State does stuff like this but not to the same degree. They used to take the recruits on Saturday night to ricks. The problem is Ricks has nothing on the library. Amazes me how on big weekends that bar can charge 20 dollars cover and be packed. While Starkville kids complain about 5 dollar cover.

Reasons why they do it better.

1. They are organized. Players tweet where they are going. So ding ding hey that's where the recruits are.

2 Recruits are like celebrities to these kids. They know there names, stats, rankings etc. (walk into the kd or phi my house and ask who Chris Jones is?) Then walk in the dg house at ole miss and ask about nemdechie or another recruit.

3. Hot girls go to the library. I'm sorry but Starkville has a problem that most your Greeks do not wanna be caught dead in ricks. (And most your hotter girls are greek.)

4. They make these recruits feel like they are the reason that everybody is at the bar. People wanting to take pictures with them, putting them on stage, everybody high fiving them. They tell these kids what they want to hear. That they will lead them to natl championship etc.

5. All the bars in one area help. But Starkville is a suit case college. And it's even worst when the sporting team that season sucks. I bet if you rode through the cotton district right now half the cars are gone. Kids go home every weekend. While ole miss kids take this weekend like a football weekend.

6. Football players are treated like gods at that school. Students worship those players. I bet the only players on our a team the majority of our students would recognize In a lineup would be Russel, Cam, and Banks. and 2 of those are not big partygoers.

The only sport we have recruited like ole miss is baseball. Where we have a little tradition and used to get diamond girls (when they used to all be hot) to take these recruits out and get them drunk and flirt all night with them.

Been saying for years Id like to buy the laundromat and building behind it in the cotton district. And turn it into a bar like the library. But at age 28 don't have the finances yet.

Love that idea! Know what would be cool? If you named it "The Laundromat", so you had the sort of double meaning of the history of the building and a name that no one would ever think of for a bar. Maybe that's silly but it worked for the guys that started the library.

remember this is a public board!

Only small difference is Chizik was 5-19 as a college coach. Freeze was 30-7 as a college coach.

As I said before, Freeze is a combination of the good parts of Chad Morris and Dabo Swinney. He just didn't have the extensive resume of some possible hires. You don't hire a resume. You hire a person. Freeze wins everywhere he goes. To think he wouldn't in the SEC is foolish. He's a lot like Hudspeth. Some guys just win wherever you put them.

Most schools wouldn't hire Freeze. You are correct, because most schools are too concerned with winning the press conference. See Bielema at Arkansas, a horrible fit, but he has a name and a resume, so yea Arkansas. Arkansas would've done much better by hiring Hudspeth. Instead, they're going to try to win with power football in a state that doesn't produce the talent they will need to do that in this league. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy they did it, but they're a great illustration of a school being more concerned with a name than a good hire.

Our hire of Nutt falls in that same category. He wasn't a big name, but it was recognizable, and he came with some good resume points.

Very good idea

In walking distance to campus for freshmen and also near all the other Cotton District bars. Only issue would be zoning because it's a rental house behind that laundromat
