A reminder that Croom never had a winless SEC season

Every time you see Saban in person just say Sylvester Croom says hello. Then laugh and walk away.
He did lose to Croom once. He also beat Croom‘s team half to death his last year at LSU and smoked him in Croom’s final year in 08 too.

Beating Texas doesn’t change much for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the line is less than 5 points or so. It wouldn’t be some massive upset.

If we beat Texas and lose out from there, I’m still not going to feel very good about the direction of the program and could still see a path to him getting fired this season. But it would be moderately understandable if we didn’t pull the trigger. There will be zero goodwill left for anyone at 4-8 though.

Beating TX would be no big deal?

If it was year 4 or 5 and not under a complete rebuild, I would. I don't count last year. Can't put that on Lebby.

I think Lebby had a bad game yesterday, but he's got the players believing they can win every game & not laying down. That's one of the hardest things to do as a coach for a bad program.

What happens when we beat TX next week? Still want him fired?
I have re-read my post several times and fail to see where I mentioned anything about fring him. Where did you see that?
That said if he continues to do stupid Sh-it like he did yesterday several times, I don't see any future for him as a head coach. He's got 5 more conference games, we'll see

That was more of a general question aimed at those that do. As some have answered.

Yeah if he has many more games like he did against FL, he won't HC anywhere. Once Lebby watches film, he'll recognize his mistakes.

If you are saying Croom was a better coach than Lebby you are one of three things:

1. an idiot
2. A troll
3. A child who didn’t experience the pain that was the Croom era

eta: I misspelled error

To put this in perspective, Croom coached 59 games, and went 21-38. In his 59 games, we were shut out 7 times, and scored in single digits another 9 times. So in 16 of his 59 games, we scored single digits or got shutout. That is 27% of his games! In over a quarter of the games that idiot coached, we scored single digits or no points! Anybody comparing Lebby to Croom really has no idea how hapless we were during those years.

Lebby is about to go 2-for-2.

Before last year, our last winless SEC seasons were 2002, 1988 and 1985.

Two in 40 years and about to have two in 2 years.
So? Croom never scored more than 38 points in a game either. These two coaches are not the same.

Ending the losing streak would be great, and beating Texas would be nice, but not some transcendent accomplishment. Not this year, anyway. I stand by what I said….if we beat Texas and don’t beat anyone else, I could honestly go either way on Lebby.

Beating Texas would be huge for Mississippi State football. You win, you keep hope you can win one more and get bowl eligible. Which again, would be huge accomplishment for this season, for recruiting momentum and fan engagement going into next year.

If we lose to Texas, I have a feeling you are looking at 8 straight loses to end the season and everyone calling for Lebby's head in December. No momentum in recruiting or in fan support and ticket sales next season.

Ok so let’s apply that philosophy here. Say we play the exact same game against Texas as we just did against Florida, up until the final minute.

But instead of doing the most literal application ever of “pre-shítting” the game away with 30 seconds left, we actually get to attempt the very make-able FG as the clock runs out.

So, Ferrie makes the FG, it’s this massive program altering win, but if he misses we’re automatically staring 4-8 in the face?

I just don’t subscribe to that very binary approach. Unless we just come out and either beat the hell out of Texas, or they beat the hell out of us….it’s just another data point to add to the other 13 data points we already have for P4 games under Lebby.

Neither of those two possibilities seems particularly likely to me, from what I’ve seen out of both teams this season. I expect a fairly close game just like ASU, UF, and Tennessee, where regardless we will be able to say “if these 1, 2, or 3 things had gone differently, the opposite outcome occurs”.

So strictly from a win-or-lose perspective, this game is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things unless we just come out and destroy them, or get destroyed. Otherwise, the narrative ain’t changing much

If he makes it, the "post-shitting" of the win starts immediately.

If beating Texas is no big deal then some of you clowns just took a lot of the shine off of the Jackal’s career.

And don’t start spouting BS that Texas 1 year removed from the playoffs and preseason #2 is in any way comparable to Texas coached by David McWilliams and John Machovik.

I hear you, and no SEC wins in 2 years is painful, but that is just a low blow. Like really low.

I think this Lebby team would kick the horse sh^t out of a Croom team.

Croom era was when I stopped buying season tickets (partially because/c of Croom, but mainly due to an extremely large dose of life), and all I remember was that we were so uncompetitive with Croom players that I was worried people would seriously get hurt

Well we did have a receiver snap his leg on the Ole Miss turf as we got shut out and put up 24 total yards in a regulation college football game. Can’t get much worse than that.
