A surprisingly pointed and good interview with Croom

One thing that he admits is we no longer run the WCO. Also the way I read it is once AD is done we are headed for the spread.

"I asked Croom about the WCO, and he says, 'when's the last time you heard me say West Coast Offense? We haven't run the WCO in two years.' He said we run a good bit of spread, but Dixon isn't a spread running back. Elliot and Wade Bonner are."

I haven't seen an entire game, but in the La Tech we ran a good bit of spread formations from what I saw. It just wasn't very effective.

What class.

Question: What's he going to do when Montrell Conner gets here?</p>

schemes. We now run the spread. Oh OK. can the spread be run out of the power I formation? or is everything called the spread now?

Maybe in Croom's mind, if you have any players on the line of scrimmage that aren't in a 3 point stance, it is a spread. so, if you use 2 tight ends and 1 widout, it would be either the Croom Spread Right or Croom Spread Left.

I can say with 100% certainty that he was saying that we were running the WCO before the Liberty Bowl. I'm almost 95% sure he was saying that we were running it this spring and fall.

I'm thinking that Bill Walsh's family was sueing Croom for slander.

this year. 3, 4, and 5 wr's in spread formations. We just aren't affective at it.

is we seem better when we are running out of our West Coas, er... pro-style formations.

It's like I said in Jan. through Aug.- just because you run the spread, it doesn't mean that you are magically going to have a solid QB, your o-line is going to remember how to block, your receivers are going to learn how to catch, and Dixon is all of a sudden going to magically develop an extra gear to get to the outside.

Of course I was told, "but, but... you can adapt it to your personnel."

...Saddawg and Coach34 that it's impossible for the spread not to be effective because it "evens the playing field" and doesn't matter what kind of personnel you have.

Why would anybody thing AD can't function in the spread? WV had a bowling ball RB as their 2nd string RB and he worked out well.

At least not all the time. You can still spread the field and run up the middle. And there's no reason Dixon couldn't do that as well as he's running from our current offense.

do run 3 Spread plays, but to say we actually run the Spread is a joke- much like the man himself is quickly becoming...The Spread is not just an "east-west running attack"...thats just assinine...inside draws, inside leads on LB's, the inside trap, the midline option- are all runs designed to be inside the tackles

I need to bring a dry erase board and some markers to the Bulldog next time and give you geniuses some Spread 101

The only people saying we run the spread is posters on this board. It appears to me we run a pro-style offense with a bit of the spread thrown in for good measure. I've also noticed we use the TE as an H-back a good bit - a role tailor made for Green.

I would love to see a break down of how many 2 TE, I-back sets we use versus 3-4 WR sets. I wouldn't be surprised if we were vastly more open formation-wise than we were 2 years ago.

I'm just saying that AD is better suited for a power running offense than the spread. Micheal Bush or a back like that can run in the spread, but again it's just not AD's strength. There are runs that do go to the outside in the spread, and when that happens we would almost tip our hand because we would have to put Ducre or Elliott in. There's a reason that Ducre takes the pitch every time we run one of our three spread plays.

And yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly. We are NOT running the spread.

Not a lot of it mind you but at least we are doing more 3, 4, and 5 WR sets. The H back thing with Green & the other TE's has been seen as well.

.....and says "we're running some spread." Then Crxxm says he's STILL building the parts to make the offense go, after five mother17ing years.

That's about the gist of it. Give me a 17ing break.

As long as he continues to dance around the results will be much the same. I havne't seen a big back run in such a wimpy manner since Tae.

It doesn't matter what offense we run with our current coaching staff. We will not recruit or coach well enough to be successful on offense.
