Has the Aljazeera feed showing the building on fire, and a good look at what a spread a cool mil can buy in Pakistan (but no TV/internet/phone).

alot of tough questions this morning and if they can't answer them then they need to go swimming with Osama. It is beyond ridiculous the games we play with those guys, total ********.

They didn't leave that compound without all the intel that was possible being gathered. Look for some more random drone strikes and some more random pakastani assistance helping kill or capture more of those scum in the coming days and months.

This compound was 100 yards from a Pakistani military unit. The fire that everyone saw was actually a blackhawk that we blew up ourselves because it was having engine problems.

They were met with resistance outside the mansion, Osama and 3-4 other automatic weapons toting cowards. As the seals engaged in a volley of heavy automatic weapons fire, Osama and the other cowards tried to use the woman as a human shield, hiding behind her. All were killed in the fire fight and Osama's body was dragged back to the one working chopper and flown away.

The seals supposedly never went inside the mansion to collect intel, they had accomplished what they came for and were back on the chopper in very short order.

...and I heard one report say that the firefight probably lasted 10 minutes and the rest of the time was spent gathering intel. Who knows?

I heard this report from several different sources: that the fire fight was swift and over almost immediately (don't mess with USN Seals) with the remaining 35 minutes used to gather intel.

This whole thing took huge nads: an unannounced mission into what was basically the back yard of Paki's West Point Academy. Obama was not kidding when he said back in 2007 that he would go into Paki to get the guy.

It's more than 100 yards, actually it's a little over 1100 yards, but yea, there's little doubt that they knew he was there in my mind.<div>

Very detailed info. Good technical read. After reading it, I scanned the top to find out who wrote it, thinking, "This guy knows his ****."</p>

built very close to a military installation with routine helicopter traffic. The helicopters were most likely heard but were not alarming.

I was just praying for a group of young punks in skeleton costumes to jump out of an alley and try me. May be a good thing that didn't happen either.<div>

both sides against the middle. They cooperate with us just enoughtto keep our money flowing in and they obviously do the same with the terroist groups. I don't think there is any doubt that someone was receiving quite a bit of payola from Bin Laden within the military or the Pak govt or both to keep his sorry *** alive. Obviously there aren't alot of better choices for us right now but it is amazing we were able to pull this off under this situation. A damn good day indeed, Osama's check must have bounced.

Insurgents in Iraq were exploiting the slow decision loop that coalition
commanders used, and enhanced interrogation techniques were frowned
upon after the Abu Ghraib scandal. But the hunger for actionable
tactical intelligence on insurgents was palpable.

The way JSOC solved this problem remains a carefully guarded secret, but
people familiar with the unit suggest that McChrystal and Flynn
introduced hardened commandos to basic criminal forensic techniques and
then used highly advanced and still-classified technology to transform
bits of information into actionable intelligence.

In other words...we have some people that can go Jack Bauer on the bad guys.
