Is this like the one millionth best pizza thread or what? I'm not going to bother listing my faves yet again, but a few notes:

Bernie's in Millard is reopened.

Also, Pudgy's is still open.

Casey's not top 3, but it is surprisingly good for you pizza wanna-be snobs.

I like Casey's better than most restaurants. After the last pizza thread I tried Piezanos, and it was freaking awful and burnt. I wish the Huskers would sell Casey's pizza instead of Vals.

Sgt. Peffers. Has a great lunch deal. 2 slices and a drink for under $7. The slices are big and plenty to fill you up for lunch. We hit it about once a week.

Pitch is good. Dudleys in Aksarben is good. But I love Sam and Louie's.

Yep and yep. I think Dudleys is a little pricey though.

I miss A Piece Of The Pie, it was located in the food court at East Park Plaza...been gone for years now.

I really liked Pizza Gourmet but I guess I was the only one since they all seem to be gone now.

Saw this article and got me thinking about the best of the best for pizza joints, as I've been to a ton in both cities. Don't post a list. Post say, a top 3, in order. There's only 3 pizza places you can eat at in either city for the rest of your life.

My top 3:

Bronze medal: Patty's Pub, Lincoln (wavered between Patty's and Oscar's for the bronze spot). Kind of off the beaten path a bit, but I grew up in that area and we still go there for the 'za.

Silver medal: Frank's, Omaha. The best New York style 'za I've had anywhere. Including New York. The owner is from there, after all. Foldable, thin slices (which means you can take down quite a few, so order a large).

Gold medal: Ramo's, Lincoln. Always get the pepperoni and bacon and it's just so legit. So legit in fact, that I can't stop shoving 'za in my head until it's gone.

Let this be the thread of all threads to end the pizza debate.

You can always tell when people have lived in Lincoln or Omaha for too long. Even with the miserable buffet valentines is still the best pizza not only in Nebraska, but in the country. I've not found anything I would even rate second. Many people confuse quantity with quality. Some of the places you suggest load on the toppings but the pizza has no taste. The thing to do is either carry out from Val's, or wait at the buffet until they bring a fresh one out and take the whole new pizza. Val's pizza has to be hot and fresh to be appreciated. But if you can get it hot and fresh there is no comparison to anywhere else.

1. La Casa. Nothing better than their hamburger pizza. I could eat a large by myself in one sitting.
2. Big Fred's, although as some have noted the quality has gone down a bit. Still, if you get a good one, it's great.
3. Oscar's. With char-buffed wings, of course.

Side note, Casey's sausage breakfast pizza is to die for. Wouldn't make my top 3, but that stuff is definitely not typical gas station-quality food.

And I thought I was crazy for hanging on to the 90s for good football! Val's USED to be the best pizza around, bar none. But I think that was prior to Scott Frost and Ahman Green running all over the Vols. If you're still calling them the best, just like the guy calling gas station pizza in the top three.....you're out!

62 replies already to a topic about pizza. Just goes to show you how many preferences there are, and we have yet to talk much about deep dish.

I'm not a big fan of what Lincoln has to offer, lots of cake style pizzas: Vals, Piezanos, Isles... but let's face it, Omaha is a lot bigger so the choices are more abundant but Big Freds and Oscar's are pretty much the same too. Yia Yia's and Mellow Mushroom are about equal IMO but they fall short of the classic New York style pizza. One place I didn't see mentioned in Lincoln was the Venue, it's a smaller brick oven pizza but it had a great crust. I only had the happy hour pizza version so I'm going to have to visit it again to get a second opinion. After reading most of the above replies, I really want to try Franks in Omaha.

BTW - I make the best deep dish around.

Like I said, Frank's is my favorite pizza joint in Omaha. Try it.

my brother wanted to open a la casa's in overland park in kc, which would have been swarmed by soccer moms. but for some reason la casa didn't want to do it.

Anything without Orsi's on it I disagree with.

Orsi's is true Italian style pizza as is LaCasa. Both are different styles, but you can't deny both are amazingly good! If you have never tried an Orsi's hamburger goudarooni your missing out! That is something I go out of my way to get, and is in the top 3 of my favorite foods!

After really thinking about it my top 3 would be
1. Orsi's
2. Mangia
3. LaCasa

Wife and I really like Zio's in the Old Market. We always go if we're in the area.

Oh, and like others have said, Casey's pizza isn't bad. I like the dough they use, very yeasty (so it's a personal preference I guess). Ordered a medium hamburger pizza from them just last weekend. It's no Giordano's from Chicago, but it's decent enough.

Piezon's Pizza is owned and run by a ex HUSKER. No place to sit down and eat, but great pizza. Great conversation with Matt Vrzal

My favorite Pizza in the Omaha area comes from a place out in the Gretna area called Waterfall Lounge. I'm not a huge fan of pizza but I love the pizza from this place. Another place that sells pizza I like is Dennys in Crescent, Iowa.
