You just get all the ****** students, because parents who care are starting to pull their kids from the nonsense going on in our public school systems.Weak kneed parents should learn how to parent better and take some accountability for their kids so their kids won't be acting afool in school. What are these parents doing for the first five years before they enroll in kindergarten? What are they doing when they are home with the kids before and after school? What are they doing at home when they have the kids over the weekend, spring break, winter break, summer break, etc.?
Perhaps the teachers should start having a say in how the kids are parented if the parents want a say in how the kids are taught??
I liked Boyd better. He and I are kind of like Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder....he's definitely Boyd though
So you think the teachers unions have done a good job this past two years?Teachers have to produce lesson plans for each class every day. Where I went to school, PE teachers also taught health classes and driver's ed.
Getting rid of unions isn't the answer. It's one of the biggest reasons why the size of gap between rank and file employee and executive pay has gone through the roof and why so many people are having to live paycheck to paycheck. You take away the power from the rank and file and the executives are always going to take advantage for their own personal benefit.
Biggest problem with outside influence in education is people who don't know jack **** about education want to have a big say in it. Kind of like when coaches and players get pissed off at media who have never coached or played a second of organized sports beyond middle or high school, if even that much.
But priests also get a ton of stuff given to them. Having tax-free housing provided is a pretty significant one. For a lot of people, that amounts to around an extra $10-12K+ a year in gross income.
We may disagree a lot...but we have something common that not everyone understands.I liked Boyd better.
No down time? Says the guy with 25,000+ posts on just this forum. I am sure none of them are during your work hours since you are so damn busyBoo-****ing-who..
What do you think most office jobs are like? As an IT guy (which I can vouch for with past posts), there's no down time for me. There's no "off the clock". MY students? Those are the internal staff, who can bother me at any time for something, people that I also eat with, in the break room or cafeteria. I don't have a door, and I can't close myself off from anyone. People can approach me, call me, email me, slack me.. I don't have some "safe space" to go hide..
This is the part that annoys me. I'm fine with teachers making more money.. the good ones should IMO. But sitting atop of your throne like you're the only ones who have hardships at work.. Gets so tiresome. There's a reason why these threads exist and why the rest of us roll our eyes when a teacher complains.
Ouch. Getting serious in here.Flexing on a message board about working 457 hours a week is the epitome of stupidity.

And priests get everything paid for. My uncle is one at some small *** country church and he gets housing, a car, health insurance, clothing allowance (and it covers a lot more than what he just needs for church), frequent free meals from the congregation, etc. His salary goes almost entirely to luxury. And since he basically only has to work two days a week at the church (according to him), he works on the side as a pastor two days a week at the local hospital system. So you think the teachers unions have done a good job this past two years?
Teachers Unions don't care about employees, they care about the union. Not to mention there's still no discussion why school board member salaries continue to raise and raise and they create nonsensical positions that aren't needed.
I understand the outside influence you're saying, but teachers also don't know what it's like in the private sector...tho all of us did go to school. It still fails to explain why they are so desperate to put something in a 5 year olds education.
Priests make like 15k
I am an educator. I have worked second jobs to make ends meet. However, I will forfeit the social security I pay and should receive. So as you say, I only work part of the year...and thus work another job to help make ends meet, but can not get the social security I pay and deserve. Would you be happy to work knowing the money you are paying will be taken? How would you feel about forfeiting part or all of your social security? It is the Government Pension Offset and the Windfall Elimination Provision. Tell me again how great we treat our teachers!I assumed that he made that comment to poke at the fact that teachers only work a portion of the yr.
PR is a real fun one when someone at your company ***** up. "CEO of Company X Arrested for Human Trafficking" well have fun with that **** storm every day for the next few months, if not longerSo, if we're keeping score at home, it's:
Teachers - 1
Clergy - 1
IT workers - 2
There is nobody on God's green earth, that works more f***ed up hours than IT folks. It's like being on call 24/7
I had to remote in from a GD cruise ship one time to fix a server at transportation. Bad weather? System is down and won't re-boot? Get in the car at 2:00 in the morning and drive in. A high level administrator can't remember a password, and somebody gave him/her your number? 11:00 pm call on a Saturday night. On and on ad nauseum. And it isn't a rare occurence. It's pretty damn regular.
That's not entirely fair. There are a lot of folks in the trade/service industry that have to do that as well.
I didn’t think Kentucky teachers pay into social security? Can you send me a link that says they do?I am an educator. I have worked second jobs to make ends meet. That’s always been my understanding. Are they also exempted from paying into it?
You would still get that wouldn’t you? It’s SS earned from working other jobs.
Kentucky teachers do not pay into social security. However, in the second jobs I have to work, I do pay into social security AND have paid enough to earn benefits, which I will not see because I am a Ky teacher. It is called the Gov Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provision. There is nothing fair about it.I didn’t think Kentucky teachers pay into social security? Yes. I have always worked multiple jobs. I just wish they would let me receive what I have earned. It’s SS earned from working other jobs.
It doesn’t eliminate all of it does it?Kentucky teachers do not pay into social security. Interesting stuff, that piece is news to me. Looks like there are quite a few variables that go into the reduction. Looks like at some point there is a chance none is forfeited.I am told I will lose 2/3 of the social security I have earned. It won't be a great deal because it was always the second jobs that I paid into social security. But the fact that I forfeit any is pretty sickening. I don't think that is being unreasonable at allJust want what I earned through all my hard work (like anyone else).
It would be great to get 100%. Do others who pay into SS get a reduction?Interesting stuff, that piece is news to me. Looks like there are quite a few variables that go into the reduction. Looks like at some point there is a chance none is forfeited.
It is completely unfair and ridiculous. The democrats of this state set it up that way and opted out of social security back in the day because they thought they could manage the pension better than the federal government. It also gave them funding options for the state budget with the flexibility to adjust payments to the pensions in tight years.Kentucky teachers do not pay into social security. However, in the second jobs I have to work, I do pay into social security AND have paid enough to earn benefits, which I will not see because I am a Ky teacher. I guess if they are getting a pension yeah.It would be great to get 100%. Do others who pay into SS get a reduction?
Yep. It is utterly disgusting IMO. Most people do not realize these "acts". I didn't realize this until after I began my teaching career in 1995. Still glad I became a teacher. I love what I do. And I would love to get the amount of SS that I have earned. I earned every penny of my pension and I have earned every penny of SS.I guess if they are getting a pension yeah.
First off, the other poster was poking fun. I was not. So, direct your comments to him.I am an educator. I have worked second jobs to make ends meet. Bevin tried to modernize the pension and the teachers union threw a giant hissy fit, staged illegal walkouts, and spent millions of dollars against his reelection.Third, most states have changed their format. Tennessee teachers have a self funded retirement like a 403……and get SS. Why hasn’t Kentucky changed?
Does he work three 12s?If we’re comparing ****** schedules my brother is an ICU physician so think he has everyone beat these last couple years. He literally texted me the other day bitching he hasn’t had a raise in 11 years so it is true everyone feels underpaid lol

Bevin lost because people hated him. He was an ahole and a jerk and not nearly as smart as you think he was.Bevin tried to modernize the pension and the teachers union threw a giant hissy fit, staged illegal walkouts, and spent millions of dollars against his reelection.
They barely defeated him and got us stuck with Andy the dipshit, but they are still a huge faction of votes.
I didn't vote for him either. He was definitely a jerk, but not as much of a dipshit as Andy.Bevin lost because people hated him. He was an ahole and a jerk and not nearly as smart as you think he was.
What exactly do you hate about govoner Breshear.I didn't vote for him either. He was definitely a jerk, but not as much of a dipshit as Andy.
All Bevin had to was keep his mouth shut...but he was too dumb even to do thatBevin lost because people hated him. He was an ahole and a jerk and not nearly as smart as you think he was.
100%. He lost by 5K and the other republicans won by 180-300k votes. Moron. All Bevin had to was keep his mouth shut...but he was too dumb even to do that
