I've been watching extended range models for a few weeks now - we haven't had a freeze yet in Dallas. The models have concurrently agreed on this polar breakout for about four or five days now. There's a chunk of cold air over Siberia right now, it will move into Alaska, then Canada and dive south. Yee Haw. Freeze your Nutt off.

It will probably be a whole lot of nothing but the models have been pretty consistent with it over the past week.

The GFS long range shows it diving in, giving a little, and then reinforcing itself. The 540 line is the "snow line".
