It’s like the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Not pathetic at all.
Do you need to be Canadian to be considered for this award? A player’s nationality should not be a factor in determining whether or not he wins a league award.

I do like how they have a finalist listed for each team for each award. NFL should consider to add some juice to the awards.

The CFL hands out a “Most Outstanding Canadian” award? That’s pathetic.
not really....

The Most Outstanding Canadian Award is annually awarded to the best Canadian player in the Canadian Football League. The two nominees for the award are the Lew Hayman Trophy winner from the East Division, and the Dr. Beattie Martin Trophy winner from the West Division. The winner of the award is chosen by the Football Reporters of Canada since 1954.[1] Players born outside Canada may win the award if they become citizens and attain National status.

I’m not offended. I just think it’s stupid having the award tied to a player’s nationality.
But the guy told you it was for humanitarian issues... its a civic award. Of course it should be for a Canadian to win. Has an American ever won it? I have no idea.

But picture this.. the water Payton Award gets renamed the Most Outstanding American award. It would never happen.. but if it did.. I would certainly hope an American would win it. As it is, some foreign player could win it for doing some humanitarian thing for his native country. Which is fine as it is the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
