This year Class 6 has five teams from the Richmond Region but that will change in the fall of 2019.

The VHSL released the ADM numbers which the classes are based on.

Class 6 will lose Manchester and Clover Hill to Class 5.

That leaves Thomas Dale, Cosby and James River as the only Richmond Region schools in Class 6.

James River sits in the bottom two of Class 6 so they could have easily been dropped to Class 5.

Big question is how they will set up the regions now. Probably makes sense to put the Richmond and Hampton Roads schools together in one region and then spread the remaining schools across three regions. Throw a dart to pick Franklin County's region.

The proposed regions now posted on the VHSL website do indeed have three North regions, with the Prince William schools and John Champe forming the new Region 6B. The Stafford/Spotsylvania schools stay in 6A, which is split into East and West groups.

The minutes from the meeting include talk about different options and getting feedback from the schools in Classes 6 and 5, so maybe this will change, but it seems like a sensible alignment.

They just need to go ahead and drop JR, TD and Cosby to 5a.. they are at the very bottom of the 6a ADM figures. Just have one mega 5a group out of richmond.

Having 3 teams is senseless especially since most Nova 6a schools have 500 more students at least

James River could have been Class 5 sure... 1966 and Granby in Class 5 is 1947. Dale and Cosby however are the 20th and 35th in Class 6 so they are hardly at the bottom.

I don't think there will ever be a perfect system that appeases everyone.

True but Cosby is supposedly over populated and chesterfield is looking for other schools to step in the coming year or two. I heard 150 students.. where would that put them?

One thing to remember, administrators and school board members making the decisions about school enrollment numbers, have zero interest in what class size for athletics their plans result in.

I think the bottom end of 5A could level out the numbers a bit. We have several on the verge of dropping to Class 4
